I am out of my league of expertise here, but it is. When a photon is absorbed, it has an impact, when it rebounds, it exerts an impetus again.
rebounding waves have such eroding effects on beaches., and give an interesting interference pattern, which I vaguely touch on, in the thread, " Planets orbit like their stars vibrate"
Is the same photon that was absorbed , the same photon that rebounds ?
Can any body explain why ?

The big disappointment is, that the pristine picture through a telescope eye piece I see, is not the same photon that left the heavenly object of my admiration.

Doesn't have to be the same photon . Just a photon amoungst trillions of others .
The source of the photons is the important thing .
Yeah, but I am fantasizing about heavenly bodies. like touching a newly cut piece of wood from old growth timber, untouched for centuries. not a reflection or reproduction or it.
Imagine a unique single photon, millions of years old, bouncing around inside the Sun and just now reaching us. bouncing off the moon, or nearer heavenly body, hopefully. now:

well, matter, when absorbing light is increasing in mass, just not massively. That is why reflected light has more umph, because it did not leave that small mass residue behind.
and without that eternal energy being present to convert into, at/before the Big Beginning, there would be no matter. mass. to look at by ALMA, of the OP.

Well, while I will agree with the word "always" , like meaning infinitely old, endlessly old or young, eternal,
I have reservations about the range from micro to macro.
At the point in time, the so called Big Bang, a profound change occurred in a cascading event, where in a realm where no matter existed, but now it does, intermediate forms of energy to matter emerging, as we can still detect in that long ago process. so:
infinitely old Energy? yes. existing in infinitely long time?: yes.
present micro and macro energy or matter forms, existing eternally? hardly.

When we think locally, age implies limitations, like nebel : born 1930 ( doctor says I have only 30 years left at 90, human maximum age pegged at 120 presently). but
in the ALMA thread on the cosmic scale, there is no such limitation, age is only a small segment in infinite time #1. preceded by an infinite past, going into an no-time-limit future ."age" seen only as two snap shots between stages of the universe's non stop time travel into the future.

As I understand it, the energy=mass equivalency applies to any interaction, not just atomic explosions, nuclear power station heat generation, just normally (like in light, chemical electron reactions), the differences are so small, considering the huge c^2 value.
so, when photons, their energy is absorbed, and not re-emitted (at longer wavelength, as heat), internally that absorbed energy must result in mass, gluons? increase.
perhaps even Stephen Hawking's black holes evaporate like that. mass being carried away by way of radiation, deposited elsewhere. somehow, somewhere.
Anyway, I assume in ALMA, there is an UR energy not limited to the forms we have in the present universe, existing in infinite time #1. .
What absorbs the light energy ?
Mass then must have the ability absorb electromagnetic energy .
If true . Then the magnetic field also increases , along with the electric field .
