What do YOU, want post war Iraq to be like?

When America is completely done, what would YOU like the results to be? And also what do you think will actually happen?

Myself, I'm not sure. That's partially why I ask what others want to happen. Do Americans want a democratic country in Iraq, something like an Arabic texas maybe, or do you just want Saddam gone and prevent a muslim fundamentalist from being his succesor?
 
personally, im against the war.

but if it does happen, and it looks very likely (i wont lose hope), i think the main thing to concentrate on after that is reconstruction. After WWI, the treaty of Versailles? Marsailles? something like that.... left germany in such ruinthat it practically forced them into WWII. After WWII, people were smarter. The new plan gave billions to Japan and Germany, and other countries the war had torn apart. this way, they had something to start to build upon, and there was not nearly as much unrest. and it worked, look at Japan and Germany today, right behind America, competing amoung other world economy leaders.

So after this war, i think the main thing will be for America not to forget about them. The worst thing to happen would be for them to go in, pulverize the country, and then debate amoung themselves how to get them back on their feet.
Once the war is over, we cant delay, we need immeiate action to make their new government, and their new economy.
Hell it might even work again just to throw money at it, it did before.
 
I would like postwar Iraq to resemble a proud nation that overcame Saddam's tyrrany on their own, or even with broad international assistance- a nation that enjoys sovereignty and legitimacy. What I sadly expect is a long, losing US occupation in the midst of an Iraqi civil war and breakup. I expect with sorrow regional instability and a vicious metastasis of terrorism that will grip the Middle East, and bring unnecessary suffering and death on a large and unpredictable scale.
 
A Starbucks on every corner and a Ford in every driveway. Might as well expand our consumer base at the same time.

Nothing particularly intelligence requiring about the question, so no it is a question of utmost simplicity. You should be able to tell that for yourself, but maybe it IS too intelligent for you. Nebula was being trollish and racist, I wonder if he/she realizes that fact though. Can't you grasp that what I said was merely a more polite way of saying such.

The thought of having Iraq as a Texan type of democracy in the middle of totalitarian governments, in the middle of “Middle East”, it’s something for Walt Disney to figure it out. To many, it appears to be very difficult in understanding that there are hardly any parallels between old European history, old European dictatorships, and Muslim countries.

Even Turkey, that by being the bridge between two ancient worlds has been influenced by the best of both extremes of cultures, does not have a transparent democracy.

The prospects of turning Iraq into a prosperous democracy is a made believe dream to place a blanket of hope to the ignorant and cover-up the real agenda.

Nice picture but it wont happen because not only is this not the same, just the first step in many many more wars to come that will see a backlash against the west thanks to mr Dubbya of imense porportions.

Well these are not inspirng precedents, benchmarks, whatever you want to call them.
They will be in, Divvy up the oil, Set up a puppet, onto the next target and let the big business fight over reconstruction contracts and pull whats left of the wealth out of the country and fuck the civilians let them die we want the $.

I want it to look exactly like the way the Iraqi people want it to look like.
 
I second that RMC, only who just are the REAL iraqi people anyway??

Bagdad and surroundings???? In the north we have the Kurds , in the South the Sji'its, both having their very own cultural identity. They never wanted to belong to Iraq, which was really invented by the British after WW1.

Now I know that Turkey isn't going to be pleased with a secular kurdistan and all the sunnit arabs on the peninsula do not like the idea at all of the southern sji'its to become part of Iran , but really, this is what I feel that each people should be entitled to their promised land...

...with respect for it's neighbours offcouse;)
 
I want to see a nation that has the groundwork for the possibility of peace. However, I cannot see this occuring through Bush's iggnorant ultimatum for war.

We set up camp in a few fortified locations in unpopulated areas so we have a base of operations to work from. We break Iraq into several pieces, each with a roughly equal population. We write a constitution stressing manditory elections every 4 years, personal rights, equality for everyone, and freedom of religion. Each new country gets an identical country.
We rebuild the large cities complete with new paved roads, water purification plants, and the like. Also new hospitals, non-fanatical schools, and non-military police stations. Western corperations would be free to set up shop.
After ~ten years most of our forces, military and the guys doing the rebuilding, leave. In each of the three new countries we keep one large military base.

At least thats what I want.
