The cheek of the man!!!
This is a few days old now but it's not been on here so:
The US Secret service are apparently requesting the UK set up exclusion zones in the UK to prevent anyone getting near the president during his visit to the UK.
I'm sure many of you know about all the indignation that's already been caused by his proposed visit and the planned protests, to the extent that out of "Security Fears" they've had to completly scrap most of his original tour including the open carriage ride.
But he's still going to come down to get pictures of him waltzing round with the Queen and the PM to get some nice photo op's for the up and coming election drive i'm sure.
But no pictures of him shaking hands with the british public or kissing babies this time.
The plans for the "Exclusion Zones" would pretty much shut down several parts of London for his visit and protesters are decrying this as an enroachment on civil liberties and their right to protest.
Whilst the UK is promising they will not give in to pressure to set up these zones they WILL be using Anti-Terrorism laws to force protesters to move on and keep the peace despite their being more than enough power for them to do this without having to resort to "Terrorism charges" against peaceful protesters in a public place...albeit a public place in clear view..and hearing of MR Bush.
They will also be banning protesters from Whitehall and Parliament square (As is common practice).
They will also however be a "Rolling road block" of undetermined size around the presidents cavalcade at all times to allow him to move about freely.
Though i can't recall any other unpopular visitors needing a constant road block around their presence to be able to move about freely?
Its kind of a shame really that at the end of the day he's going to get his nice photo shoots to use in his election showing how "popular" he is in the UK with the queen and PM without the shots of the 1000's of UK citizens outside the window telling him to go home.
Oh and aside from his 700 armed security staff....3 cooks, 25 aides and friends the Prez is bringing with him Scotland yard is assigning ALL it's armed units and i think it was...need to check the numbers 5000 regular police to protect him
The US Security will form a "Bubble" around the president but the UK is denying worrying rumors that they have been / will be granted immunity should they open fire.
This is going to cost the british tax payer £5million for the 3 day visit.
