I just saw it....Bad fiction in a movie...humans make viruses that wiped out a million high level development in a quantum computer...that is amazing...

It is amazing that they made a bad movie? What was the name of the movie?

edit to add:
I saw on rotten tomatoes the reviewers gave it a 19%, audience gave it a 42%, the audience probably just like Johnny Depp.
 
For the most part Depp was sitting down and being broadcast on TV network just sitting there motionless except his mouth when he talked to those watching the TV screen. Very boring movie I'll agree. Cloud Atlas was the last good movie I saw.
 
Since my field is Artificial Intelligence...I found it to be really Bad....sometimes movie people put stuff together under science fiction but it is really a Horror movie or someones throw-up...yet people put up the money for it....

But no money to make Babylon 5 to HD Video or even a new set....very sad...


As to Star Trek, I was hoping new ventures since our Universe is sooo big...and discuss other dimensions too...oh well...needs some real thinking...

Star Wars had Spirit systems...but no one talks about the inter-linkages...and how our civilization grows....
 
Transcendence seems like someone sat at the back of one of a Kurzweil talk and just reasoned how everything would fall down around the ears of the people with their plans and beliefs.

If they'd been to a Humanity+ talk or two, then they might of re-considered some of their positions in regards to the directions they steered their characters. One of the cornerstones to any development on a transcendence path is to no lose Humanity in the process, such things as "free will" are extremely important. I suppose it could be considered that the notion the AI couldn't distinguish those bounds is part of the reason why it separated it from being a true human consciousness continuity.

The obvious problem with the film though is really about which people it appeals to, one of the main problems in this "philosophy" is that while some are happy to consider possibilities while others see it as a whole lot of procrastination and arm waving.

Perhaps they should of gone a William Gibson route and pitted the AI/Construct against other AI/Constructs (Creating a "Matrix" and no not the 1999 one.), this would of resulted in something reminiscent of the Sprawl series.
 
One other thing, I thought the movie A.I. was better than this for it dealt with A.I. much more intelligently that this movie ever did.

Stryder, we have not talked for a while...and thanks here. I have grown up since the start of sciforums...learned a lot about Life, Universe and Everything....so, we can talk...this post is as good as any.

I learned that besides doing my work in computers (AI), space systems etc...I learned the "Free Will" thing and opened up to the Spirit Universe a la Gary Zukav stuff...I have my passed away parents as a guide....

We are still behind in those areas even in scifforums...(bigtime) ever since the eye opening to COSMOS long ago (Giordano Bruno ). We still do not understand the Spirit Universe and the spirit dimension just like the Time dimension separate from our 3D space dimension....let alone there are others that we have no idea what they are.

Interesting part is that our spirit dimension is connecting to us 24X7 for each person to understand where we are in the development of our civilization and nudge us to go in the right direction. I basically know where we may go in 300 years...beyond that for the next 700 years I would know in that 300 years....but people can not believe this because we do not have direct scientific instruments to connect the links (yet)...

One way to link far away place is through the subtle energies. The best way to get there is to develop a good artificial intelligent system using either a organic computer or by any other means where the quantum system will develop the quantum entanglement communication system that does include the quantum computer...to connect higher form of civilizations out there.

We know those higher forms were part of Earth History....that is in Ramayana and Mahabharata. While they were just stories but are based on actual history...we can connect the dots and develop new SCIENCE...because they will be here in 300 years...like it or not.

But line is...Krishna Civilization are very high in organic scheme of things in another galaxy (he made the Bhagabat Gita happen)...so, to connect then is via next generation quantum computer/ artificial intelligent systems.....

And even if we do not today, we will have the connection in 300 years where they will be here....

That link came to me after watching Transcendence....

The history as it would be is a quantum probability this way - we have serious climate change...that would put Florida under the sea in 200 years...that would create major space and other activities while in 300 years we will have external entities for support to change some stuff here due to advanced projects and set up space ships to head out for some of us....that is for now...we worry about next 1000 years by then...also I plan to develop Mars as colonies...we shall see what happens...

But these things are not great to talk even in sciforums...I know...I tried that but got basically beat up with old technologies...

P.S. - We can not talk to Spirit Universe in another dimension using our present technologies...may be someday using quantum entanglement and thought processing etc.....
