Does anyone else think that Dune is just plain old amazing? I mean, the books are incredible. The movie...eh...nevermind the movie. But the books!!!!! Even the prequels are great. Am I alone here? :)

I've never read the books, but I like the movies that have been done on it, great story line.

To be honest with you, I frickin love the movies. The original 80's on is amazing. Has anyone seen the special 4 hour edition? It crazy.

Actually i read dune antd thought it was the biggest wate of my time. However i happen to be alone in this everyone else thiks dune is great. I thought it was pointless.

In the Dune series spice is a center peace ,but the Star Wars series makes mention of spice also whats the difference of spice in the two series?

Star wars spice

Ya know, someone else told me that it was mentioned. Do you remember when and who said it?

Spice was the substance that interstellar travel depended on. Without it there was no empire to rule over. The only place to find spice was on Dune. So when a religous revolt happens on Dune those who rule the empire are "concerned". It was a very good novel which has been brought to life in varing degree of success by the movies. None of the movies has managed to capture the true depth of scope that the book portrays.

There are a good amount of mentionings of spice in Star Wars but one mentioning that comes to mind is in epasode II when Senator Amidallas transport ship is bombed Obwan is disscusing the incedent with the Jedi council and he says "The bombing is probably traced to disgrunteled spice miners on Naboos outer moon".

Neutrino, read it again:D

And as for Star Wars spice, I think it's just another addictive drug, like cocaine. When I was a wee little boy I read some of the Young Jedi Knight books and one of the people was addicted to spice, they had larger eyes or something.

HEY!!! THE DUNE BOOKS ARE FRICKIN' AWESOME!!! Die, infidel!
Ya i expected the reaction to my anti-dune feeling would be alot like a secular humanist convention held in the vatican ;)

The star wars spice is just one more example of how str wars is mostly copied from dune.

Dune set the standard for most scifi
Lord of the Rings set the standard for most fantasy.

That's how it works. In the science fiction book world most books are awful but the ones that are good are really good, there's no in-between, so whenever we come across something that people, not only scifi lovers like, then we've found something that will set the standard for as long as the genre is popular (which it isn't, right now, because of all the crap that's out there).

Alas, I've found Enders Game, god I love this book. I started it late yesterday and I'm almost finished.

I'm going to buy all of the books tomorrow, but they won't get here in time for when I'm finished with enders game:(

And yes it is.

Check this out. These are all of the books in the series, I'm pretty sure. At the bottom of the page it looks like he's writing a new one, too.
