Shows about time travel

The common understanding (for me incorrect) of TIME, it is construed as having a period (length, a thickness)
NOW does not have thickness
The common understanding of a ruler is that it has length/thickness.
The halfway point on a ruler does not have thickness.
And yet, there is at least six inches of ruler to either side of it.

So what?

Soooo a ruler is a PHYSICAL item of a concept. In essence inches do not exist. As a concept they can be ANY length. To avoid obvious confusion they have been standardised. But they still remain a concept

Please produce a PHYSICAL representation of future and / or past

Before you suggest calendar, or such, they represent AGE not time

:)

But the moment defined as "now," passes immediately. We are moving into the future. Should we act, we do not know someone will not travel from the future to tell us, or act, on the consequences of our action (s.) The only solution is non-interventionism, which allows a person to choose their own action (s. ) This raises a highly ethical dilemma: TIME exists only because we have life; because death exists. We cannot have life without death. But I agree with Michael345: only the present exists.

But the moment defined as "now," passes immediately. We are moving into the future

NOW does not pass to another NOW
NOW is resolutely NOW
We do not move into the future
We are forever stuck in NOW

Think of a movie camera filming, at high speed, a painting. During the same period you sit watching the painting

After a arbitrary period you notice a change in the painting. You mark the moment you noticed the change and watch a little longer before finishing and stopping the camera

Then you watch the film from the beginning until shortly before the moment you noticed a change

Slowing the movie down to a slow snail pace you find the moment you noticed a change really started a short period before you noticed

You can isolate the single frame which most matches your memory, however with a high speed movie there are bound to be a few either side which could also fit your memory without a shoe horn

Also remember the movie, no matter how fast the speed, is a series of snapshots, which have small black outs between frames

Your eye, when you are watching the painting, does not take a discrete snap, process, take another discreet snap

It watches with continuous smoothness. The ability to notice a change is more a shortcoming within the processing not having enough neurones

NOW has always been NOW and has Nevada been a stop start system

THAT IS THE PUZZLEMENT OF TIME
IT DOES NOT EXIST BUT BUT BUT AGE DOES AND AGE OBSERVES REALITY SMOOTHLY

HOW?

:)

If time doesn't exist then why does non-interventionism produce change? Wouldn't you like to know you were not responsible for a single evil in the world?

If time doesn't exist

I contend it doesn't but I will roll with "if" for the moment

then why does non-interventionism produce change?

No idea what that means. Unless, in a twisted way you are meaning humans did not invent time and even if we are not here change happens

Dooh, big surprise. Changes occur because of (one of my favourite words) physics

Wouldn't you like to know you were not responsible for a single evil in the world?

I am fairly certain I am not. Or even any other abstract non existent concept love, happiness, niceness, badness, god etc etc etc

If you know different let me know and I will decide if I need to take action

:)

I agree with everything you have written. I was hypothesising an, "if." If you could intervene, would you??
If I could travel, past / future, sure

Intervention is a given. Active intervention, as in get out and do something is problematic

If I make a change in past, return to own NOW, find bad situation, can I go back undo, make a different change?

Can I eliminate myself with a change?

If I go to the future can I go passed my death date?

Arrr the lure of the never can be known but great for ifs and speculations

:)

So, Michael345, in your contention of the non-existence of time I can only conclude that creationism ended time, which is why it doesn't exist. I must also conclude that creationism (nothing lasts forever) took forever, which is actually a finite distance.

No idea what creationism means but since TIME has never existed creationism had nothing to end

Current thought (the one I agree with at least) regarding the Universe is that the energy which started the Big Bang has always been in existence but it's form changed into what we observe now

Expansion theory (again the one I agree with) states expansion will continue and the gravity constant weakens (weakens to a level which will rule out the Big Crunch)

Matter will be reduced to single atoms continuing to thin out until the thinness over comes the forces which holds atoms together

Perhaps this event will be known as the Big Bang

:)

This thread is about time travel; it grants as a premise that time exists.

If you wish to assert that time doesn't exist, start a new thread.

So the thread requesting Evidence of god existence should have a counter thread, because in calling for existence the premises is granted evidence does exist.

Verrrryyyy interesting

A counter thread should be Show evidence for god does not exist

But if it bothers you I will try to restrain myself

I believe we are without a show that tells the story of someone travelling to the end of time. I am unaware of such a program. ☺

What would happen at the "end of time"? Would your time machine just "hit a wall"? Would your time gauge flip over to zero? Would you fall off the edge?

Well, Douglas Adams had his Restaurant at the End of the Universe, which was produced on TV as part of the HGTTG BBC series, and Doctor Who (iirc) had something similar.
