With the most recent cancellation of Farscape is SciFi channel worth it anymore? I have to pay a premium just to receive the channel now my question is "Whats good on that channel that isnt already on another channel or is on DVD?"

I want to run down a list of what they have on there "SciFi" Channel:

Farscape..cancelled
The Invisable Man...cancelled
Tremors....Do you really think thats going to be good?
There original scifi movies....LOL!
Babylon5...Reruns
Earth Final Conflict...Reruns
They dont show Lost In space
Stargate...last season coming up
The Chronicle...cancelled
Star Trek...reruns
And The Dead Zone Comes on USA
They dont show really anything now that I think about it

I watch Babylon 5 just about every day but its being released on DVD so I dont really think that SciFi channel is worth paying for...do you? And if you dont pay for it is it worth watching?

Sorry if I seem a bit wacko in this, im just mad about the cancellation of Farscape. But really is the channel worth it anymore?

No

Generally I only watched Farscape, Star Trek, or MST3K. Farscape definitely the most by far.

They just don't have the funds to get together the good scifi movies. I'm going to compile a list of the ideal scifi movies and shows:

  • All of the Star Wars movies
  • All of the Star Trek movies
  • both 2001 movies
  • The 'good' Steven King horror movies
  • In-depth previews on upcoming films
  • Scifi short film show(s) like Exposure...don't know if that's still on
  • Original shows like Farscape
  • The list goes on and on....but if this were what the scifi channel was like I would watch it ALL THE TIME

well they show those crap moveis every day...

oh wait thats the main reason i dilike them

The only thing good on the channel was Farscape and its gone. (Yes, i did like Stargate but this season REALLY sucked) So i say to hell with them.

The UK Sci-Fi channel is pretty cool. Still some great shows and Farscape is still on....well, its the series you've just seen, but hey

They've still got a few episodes we've yet to see. So at the moment, the channel is still valuable to me. I won't get rid of it afterwards not only because I dont pay for it:D but because, being the moderator of this forum, it kind of goes without saying that I should have the scifi channel.

You're just jealous I'm not as dependent on YOU.

*offers Walker pez to offset statement*

I wanna pez. I love those things:(

I used to watch Scifi for Freakylinks, that is the only show that actually scared me

The flaws of this or any sci-fi channel

The nubmer one problem with any TV station that shows nothing but science fiction is the fact that its limited to one genre. Add to that the fact that it is one of the smaller genres around and the fact that it has one of the worst crap to quality ratios of any genre (i mean for every Star Trek or Star Wars you get about 50 or 60 Invasion of the Mutant Space Cabbages from Zog, or some other equaly ludacris title) Yes concievebly they could show only the quality science fiction but for how long? Running 24 hours a day how long will it take to run through all the decent sci-fi ever made? Id say not very long, and a station that keeps repeting itself cant survive very long. Solution to this is they can make original shows. But unfortunatly the station dosent get good ratings compared to most other channels, because it only targets a specifc audience (and unfortunalty die-hard scifi fans are in the minority). Im thinking they just cnat afford to make theyre own shows, and im also betting thats wy farscape got pulled, it just wasnt making a profit.

Although i think that a scifi channel is a great idea it is probally impossible to make one work well.

Mmm, pez.

There's nothing like candy from the loosely attached head of a teddy bear.

Please add the original Twilight Zone to your list!

On the subject of Twilight Zone, the Canadian Sci-Fi Station 'Space' will be airing the new Twilight Zone :)

Maybe the American Sci-Fi channel should do what the one up here did, expand from pure Science-Fiction to Sci-fi/Fantasy. Adding shows like Hercules, Xena, Gormenghast (the mini-series), could probaly add some filler.

Hmm ...

Get rid of SciFi Channel ...

What would we get in its place? Yet another religious broadcasting station? Perhaps another MTV? Oh, I know, perhaps Lifetime 2?

Sadly, as I read SciFi Channel's Farscape Cancellation FAQ, it seems fairly black and white. It may, in fact, be true that SciFi should consider scrapping all operations, as viewership seems down.

Remember that a lot of really good programs just don't connect with the viewers. I liked the show, but heaven forbid I'm allowed to watch the cable I pay for in my own house; it's Sportscenter or Seinfeld reruns or else there's hell to pay. By and large, though, people don't want a story, don't want a grand and detailed production. Tragic as it is, SciFi may have overshot their general audience. Besides, as we're seeing with the host of bad effects: when you can computer-animate anything, why would anyone want to watch Henson effects?

Such are viewers.

I feel badly for the Farscape team; I liked the show. But I don't blame the networks when a show like this is cancelled for ratings. If there's not enough viewers, well, what does that say about viewers?

Remember that between sitcoms and news-talk, most viewers wouldn't know quality broadcasting from a porno. And the porno would be more interesting to them.

thanx,

Tiassa you have a interesting point, ive got a better one though, its called the sharp end of a butchers knife, now bring me the scifi exec!

Most TV channels are worse. I so love Farscape. It seems most shows I like they cancel.
