We all have a right to be offended, even if almost everyone else thinks we're wrong and stupid. We all have the right to be wrong and stupid. We just don't have a right to impose our sensibilities on others.
We can tell people they offend us and perhaps they'll choose not to spend too much time around people who don't like them. I certainly do. We can plan our lives to minimize our encounters with them. We can choose our own friends and decide whom to invite into our homes. We can even form clubs and groups of people we agree with and organize social events with them. We can do a pretty fair job of choosing the people we associate with... in private.
What we can't do is deny those same rights to them, and we can't choose the people we associate with in public.
Those who say they are offended don't get to be king and decide how everyone else will live in order to make them happy. If they want to lead a life in which they will probably never have to associate with someone whose way of life offends them, then they have to go back to the Stone Age and live in a village.
If they want to live in a civilization with all its comforts and benefits then they also have to put up with the sacrifices it exacts from them. The human race got past that about ten thousand years ago and we all just have to get with the program.

I think Christianity, Judaism and Islam are gross. And I have made a pretty articulate case for my point of view on SciForums. Over the course of history the people who claim to be the disciples of Abraham have done far more despicable things, harmed far more people, and come far closer to destroying civilization, than gay people could ever do. Does that mean that if by some accident of history the people like me one day acquire political power, we will have a moral right to enact laws against monotheistic, patriarchal religions?
No vote here because I don't think the choices are adequate. In my opinion, since marriage is such a joke these days, gays/lesbians may as well share all that divorce misery....but when neither has a vagina, who gets to take all the other's stuff? What the hell happens when two lesbians get divorced?

Have you spent your entire life out there in West Virginia? Have you never lived in a real city and gotten to know any gay people? And do all the straight people you know live by that code?
Gay people form families. They have children. They love each other. They care for each other.
I can only guess what you mean by "sanctity," but my marriage was a civil one and so far it's lasted for 29 years.
As for "a man and a woman," there have been numerous societies--and some still exist--in which one man and multiple women were the norm. We may be outraged by it, especially by the sexism that permitted polygyny but not polyandry, but they muddled through just fine.
As for "till death do us part," half of all first marriages in the U.S. end in divorce. - - http://www.divorcereform.org/rates.html - - I've known several gay couples who have been together for twenty years.

One cannot rightfully be for "civil unions" if one is against gay marriage, on the foundation that it'd be the same exact thing excepting the name. If we accept that calling roses "roses" and "gabaliegook" would refer to the same object, then calling marriage "marriage" or "civil union" would be the same.
I voted no as there is there is no historical foundation for homosexual marriage, nor really any historical foundation for exclusive homosexuality.

I belive there are worse things then that Roman in the world. Look at those discusting people who do terrible things to kids for gods sake.
Incest, beastilty and people having sex with dead people count as far sicker and far more twisted then two guys or ladies showing love and affection to each other.
Im Bi-sexual Does that make me sick? the answer is NO. There are many guys and ladies who are bi-sexual and its bad when the guy or lady is married and they do it behind their partners back cheating on them.
Im not str8 nor gay I fall into the catagory inbetween.

You'd think anyone with half a brain would realize marriage is acceptable even between animals, why would anyone care if homo's do it? What are you talking about? That's a very weird thing to worry about. It rubs as alarmist. Besides, would this not also apply to single parents, who are increasingly common, and their same-sex children?

Assuming for the moment that you're right — why must there be? That seems like a rather weird reason to be against something. Can't let go of the past, can we?
Why should history be written in stone and codified in law? Why shouldn't people be able to decide who they wish to have a union of love with? Why shouldn't people be able to decide what kind of marriage they have? After all, whose relationship is it?

Second of all, marriage does not equal sex. There are married couples who don't have sex (although I admit they're probably uncommon), and unmarried couples who have a lot of sex. Don't confuse the stale, draconian rule that one shouldn't have extramarital sex to mean that marriage equals sex. It's a non sequitur.

It's a well known fact that sex frequency diminishes after marriage. Hence if you really don't want homosexuals to have sex with each other you should encourage gay marriage.

Sorry about the off topic divergence, but since polyandry was mentioned, have you heard about the Nair community of India? They practised a matrilineal system of inheritance and also polyandry, among other unique customs. Not anymore though.
