SAM:
I'm going with extraordinary assertions require extraordinary evidence. You think he should make a public apology for "his appalling behaviour". Do enlighten us as to this behaviour which was not considered appalling enough to be banworthy until HE requested a ban but necessitates an apology to unban him.
I told you - go look for yourself. Gustav handily provided you to a link to the thread where spuriousmonkey made his exit from the forum.
Besides, you were there. Don't you remember?
Yes I remember that. I thought it was a pity that Ron(perplexity), implanck, ToR and satyr were not given a chance - all of them were superlative posters in their chosen fields of interest.
All of them were given many many chances.
I am getting very sick of your outright lies. You're attempting to re-write history here. I know that the vast majority of posters reading what you write won't go back and search through old threads to see the truth, so what you are doing is essentially trying to undermine the administrators here by posting outright lies. That is rather despicable, to say the least.
I was not surprised that the monkey was put aside because of the Ego of the Person Involved. There is a tendency in sci to put aside legitimate posters who post really thought provoking stuff by putting them into pigeonholes based on their personalities while dismissing their contributions. Its the exact reverse of how science actually works.
By "the Person Involved" you obviously mean me. The record shows, however, that spuriousmonkey was "put aside" solely due to his own actions on the forum. And in terms of "persons involved", there was more than just one moderator/admin involved in that decision, so your personal vendetta angle doesn't ring true.
If you note, almost all of those posters were banned after prolonged pissing contests which had nothing to do with their better posts but due to trolling and baiting them on personal issues or by labelling them as "mental cases" or misogynists or kooks - many were hounded into bans.
Of course people aren't banned for their "better posts". They are banned for the posts that break the site rules, that are offensive and insulting to other members, that constitute trolling etc. Obviously.
I am only interested in the monkeys because three years of holding a grudge over someone like spurious is just too childish for words - his contributions far outweigh one hissy fit over mod issues where HE asked for a ban.
Looking at the thread Gustav linked, you're actually talking about events that happened in 2007 - that's four years ago.
spuriousmonkey doesn't want to come back here. And he doesn't need you to drag up dead issues in a weak attempt to rewrite history for your own purposes.
There is a lack of graciousness in these forums which comes from an inability to move past personal issues and appreciate people for who they are rather than who we think they should be.
You said it. Just look at yourself.
give it another shot, james
spurious can directly apologize to sciforums for the vandalism and whatnot here in this thread or by pm
There has been no contact between spuriousmonkey and the administration here for years. Clearly, he doesn't want to come back. He doesn't require you to drag him back here any more than he requires SAM to drag him back.
Let it go. Move on.
