Palestine struggles under sanctions

I agree with most of what S.A.M. says about Israel's behaviour. Over the years I have seen many news bulletins and documentaries which confirm what she is saying . My main source of news is the B.B.C. which is uniquely trusted worldwide for its impartiality. I am also aware of atrocities against Israel but, on balance, incline to the view that much of it has been provoked.Since Israel built its so-called security wall many farmers can no longer get to their fields, so people go hungry.

A news bulletin yesterday showed a Palestian boy dying of cancer. His mother had made several attempts to get him to an Israeli hospital but she would not be allowed to pass a checkpoint. The cancer has now spread to the boy's lungs , making his condition inoperable. He is dying in agony because of a lack of suitable drugs to ease his pain.
I wonder how many American radio and tv chanels carried this story.

I have neither a religious nor a political axe to grind. I am just reporting what I believe to be the case.

The BBC is renowned for its impartiality, Acclaimed journalists such as Robert Fisk and Pilger have said so. However, On rare occasions, It can be biased... I believe this might have been the case before with Latin America.

Apart from what Pilger and Frisk say, the B.B.C. is listened to worldwide. In some countries it is the only source of news that is trusted.

Can I first point out that the Daily Mail is a right-wing rag owned by Rupert Murdoch. It is not one of our most respected newspapers; I would define it as borderline gutter press. Despite this I followed up your references.

The most evenhanded accout is in The Independent. Read it carefully and you may see that things are not as simple as you might think.

The report in question is an internal report, which means it was commissioned by the B.B.C. , something it does from time to time to keep its house in order. Surely that says something about its probity.

The report related to a situation four years ago when the Israelis withdrew all co-operation with the B.B.C. on the grounds that its reporting was biased. All information about Israel's policy on issuing passports and visas was suppressed.The Israelis had a good reason for this.

The Israeli's were also upset because they were accused of maltreating Mordecai Vananu by keeping him in solitary confinenment. They accused the B.B.C. of Nazi propoganda, which is a handy portmanteau term to discredit anyone who dares criticize them.


There were also problems concerning how best to describe the barrier Israel was building. The Israelis wanted the term anti-terrorist barrier used, the Palestinians regarded it as enforcing a form of apartheid. The B.B.C. invited an independent outsider to suggest how they should refer to it in their newscasts. The term BARRIER was agree upon .This by the way, is the barrier which seperates Palestinian farmers from their land.

Finally, the independent outsider said there was no anti-semitism in B.B.C. newscasts. He did, however, suggest that a bit more tact would be helpful.

You have now seen an example of fair-mindedness at work, somethinhg which seems totally alien to you.
