Olga's thread

Since there are potentially translation obstacles with respect to a non-English speaker starting a topic on this board (especially in the correct forum), I have created this thread purely as a topic that the member Olga can ask whatever miscellaneous questions they want in.

Rather than find a translation solution?

Rather than find a translation solution?

Here it is weeks later, and the same situation still seems to be transpiring. Figured I might as well follow through with what I suggested back then, but didn't, because I never expected such to continue indefinitely. At any rate, it eliminates excuses for asking off-topic questions when there's a special thread here ready-made to accommodate their circumstances. Either use it, start a thread of their own somewhere else, or possibly be exposed. Not that I'm personally entertaining that Olga has a wayward motive, but it can also become a route for reducing any budding doubts in that respect.

У меня не получается задать вопрос. Почему пишет:"возникли трудности"?

Even if the above was translated correctly, I'm not sure that I understand what you are referring to.

Does it have something to do with you making an attempt to start your own thread, and the system responded that there were difficulties? If so, make sure you type what the topic is about in the space that says "Thread title", or it will do that. A new thread must have a title.

And as stated in the first post above, you can also ask whatever you want in this thread, and hopefully someone will come along to reply. If you're unable to create your own threads or you get chided somewhere else about your replies being off-topic, you can use this thread as an option.

Получилось задать вопрос. Надо было написать ещё сообщение под вопросом. Я этого сразу не поняла, потому что на наших сайтах можно просто задать вопрос.

Okay. You were just backtracking to the initial confusion you felt when encountering a discussion forum like this for the first time. The translator maybe scrambled that up a bit on this end.

l notice she has started a new thread on consciousness and AI, which shows up in Cyrillic in the New list, but then appears in English when you open it. I'm not sure how that was done, but at least one can know the topic with one click.

OK, now it's displaying that new thread in Russian again. Weird. Did I accidentally hit a button when I looked at it earlier, which I now can't find? Yet another eccentricity of SFC.

I'd sure like to blunder into it, as well. Maybe Pinball was even alluding to something in development via #2 that was announced elsewhere, that I missed or am completely clueless about. (Usually an easy state to find myself in.)

This could be useful for quick questions.

For more substantial discussion topics, however, I don't think it's fair to try to confine a speaker of a foreign language to a single thread. I do find it difficult to believe that Olga can't work out how to translate text from Russian to English, but can translate English to Russian with no problems. But I'm willing to extend the benefit of the doubt for the moment.

I will insist on thread titles being in English, however. If I see a thread with a non-English title, I will edit the title to an English equivalent (I can't guarantee 100% accurate translations, though.)

Я не перевожу сама ни с какого языка. За меня это делает телефон автоматически. Я могу попробовать задавать тему вопроса на английском, думаю, для этого моих знаний английского будет достаточно. Всё же я учила его в школе, хотя без практики многое забывается.

You are using the Yandex browser? It apparently allows Chrome extensions to be installed on it (the version distributed to the West, anyway). Several of those add-ons are translation oriented, and one of them might feature an option that allows you to translate Russian to English without having to employ a utility site outside the browser.

But if you're using a tablet or smartphone, then much would be problematic or at least very inconvenient, compared to a laptop or desktop. Including whether the mobile version of Yandex browser allows installation of extensions.

And if State policy is crippling the Google search engine and other Google services by making them slow or unreachable at times, then the Chrome Store might not even be accessible.

Да, я пользуюсь смартфоном, у меня мобильная версия.

Okay, that explains everything. I'd have torn my hair out a long time ago if limited to a smartphone, when it comes to forums. Or with respect to accomplishing certain tasks, anyway.

Смартфон позволяет быть мобильным.

Смартфон позволяет быть мобильным.

I'm not criticizing the use of a smartphone. Especially when that's the only means that one has available. But it clarifies why it might be very inconvenient for you to translate your posts to English before submitting them. The mobile versions of some browsers may still be limited in what extensions can be installed on them. If I recall correctly, The Vat mentioned somewhere else about the nuisance of trying to translate even with a tablet.

Makes all this stuff easy.

"Community" means making an effort.

That "Inclusivity"-thingy y'all preach to the rest of us ad nauseam.

Just do it, and get over it.

Делает все эти вещи простыми.

«Сообщество» означает приложить усилия.

Эта «инклюзивность», которую вы все проповедуете остальным до тошноты.

Просто сделайте это и смиритесь с этим.
