/returns to chambers
We're making a fresh start, with the controlled release of past threads and of a fledgling mod. We've not set a new tone yet, and I'm still working in consultation with my esteemed associates on my "ear" for that, and learning how to react to sour notes.
My charge is to uphold the letter and spirit of the
forum rules- to encourage a perceptible elevation of these discussions; to discourage trolling; encourage posts that add to discussions, and discourage ones that don't; congratulate what's informative and pleasurable to read, and shame (or remove if necessary) what is below good-faith interpretations of the forum rules.
I'd like to promote perceptible changes that a resounding majority of members will notice and welcome- but without feeling annoyingly policed. I'd like to promote open, varied, but consistently respectful exchanges of viewpoints and information around here. I'd like to reform the trolls, heal the snarky, and raise the departed. I'd like to assume and appeal to the best in everyone, and only resort to sanctions as a last resort.
I invite
feedback from fellow members about the job I'm doing, and the trajectory of World Events & Politics. If you would like to see something handled differently, or want moderation dialed up or down in a general or specific sense, I will much appreciate knowing about it. If I have any success at all this, it will surely not be just because of me: I'm trusting in a lot of help from my friends.
