They just aired battlestar Galactica in Belgium. I've seen 3 episodes sofar and i like what i saw allthoug a lot of questions came to mind.
a few friends of mine saw the everything there is to see and they say it is far to religeous to be a great series. I not expecting to much,
Soaps are a "virtual family" for so many of us who aren't terribly social in real life. Of course any good show with well-developed, sympathetic characters and a halfway believable plot can do that. NCIS, the Riches. Angel was a nail-biter and that was really only halfway believable. But those shows only run once a week for half the year, not good enough. A soap is on every day, just like real life. You can care about the characters and check in on them every day as part of your own daily schedule.LOL Soaps were the precursor to reality shows!!
Yeah but we don't all feel the way you do. I personally could not stand the original series. For a fan of print sci fi, it was so 1930s with just a twist in the politics. But I was enraptured byTNG and have loved all the subsequent series. I will be delighted if they bring it back, maybe set a generation or two ahead in a recognizable future. Data will of course still be there, having artificially aged himself to make people comfortable with him and allowing Brent Spiner to still play the role. The sci fi is still a little hokey but the storytelling is more akin to literature instead of pulp.Star Trek must return, only this time I will control its storyline, no more freakin BORG or other such BS. The creators of this melodrama sicken me... I will return it to the former glory it once had!
What, did you miss Lexx?I propose to make a scifi series that involves a federation of ... moons at war with the time doctors, plunger boys, replicos, java, oni, zorg, dominons, toasters, the monarch. No gay people but perhaps a male pregnancy for fun.
Yes, I thought Farscape was the best of the lot. The makeup, Muppetry and visual effects were far beyond the other shows and really made me feel like I was there. It had a lot of thought-provoking or simply poignant stories, but so did TNG and Bab5, and to a lesser extent DS9. But the universe they created is very rich and could easily support a whole new series with new characters and stories. For having FTL travel, the milieu in Star Trek is pretty constricted, and the same for Stargate even though they've actually explored a second galaxy. The milieu in Farscape is more what I would expect, with an untold number of civilizations. Galactic domination being somewhat elusive due to the limitations of even whiz-bang technology.I'd like to see Farscape return. It did not run that long and the stories weren't that bad, better than some of the stories from the newer Star Trek and Stargate.

sci-fi will be the future once humans discover that we ruinded our planetits sci fi of course don't expect too much!!
The show made it pretty clear that even though the cylons are artificial creations, they aren't just cold, calculating machines. They have emotions, they do odd things simply because they think it would be fun, they get angry, etc. Some of them believe in a strange religion. Still, I don't see how anyone could possibly call the show "religious".Robot's believing in God ? In space above and beyond they had believed in 1 rule "take a chanse"; but the cylons are believers in God and kill everyone that doesn't????? like the cylons more in the original series though.

I actually kind of prefer the new cylons. I always thought the old ones were odd – if they don’t have any emotion, fear of death, etc…then why did they bother rebelling in the first place? And why did they come looking for revenge? That’s not the sort of things that a cold, calculating machine does, it’s the sort of thing that a pissed off machine does.
I saw a movies in the old day's where the ship has 9 vegitation domes and the only human left on board sends the last remaining dome into space with a droid to take of the plants;
It's been to long to remember the name though.
I think the movie you are thinking of is 'silent running'. I remember that film, but have only seen it once many years ago. (and I don't know how to quote a post right)
I think I saw that one on the late late show one day. If I remember right, the droids had wierd names and it was kind of a "hippy" type movie (a 1960's sensibility).I think the movie you are thinking of is 'silent running'. I checked out your profile. You have an interesting pattern. You pop in, make a few posts, then come back two or three years latter. Kind of like a SciForum's Rip Van Winkle.Yep, that's the one. Reminds me of the hippies in Dark Star.
Here's a link to that film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067756/
I'm surprised no ones remade it, I thought it was a good movie. Then again the yanks have been busy remaking classic British films and turning them into a pile of crap.
They had to get rid of StarGate to make room for masterpieces like Manskitto. Why no replacements for the cool sci fi like star gate?
We are so starved of good sci fi, why not junk some of the crap game shows
etc, and put the money into wholesome sci fi?
Star gate (must) have been very popular, and made oodles of cash.

Welcome back.
Personally, I thought stargate was much better when it was on showtime.
