New Delhi 'Helmeted Bugman' Terrorizing Incident of 2001

I saw this episode on "Weird or What?" for the first time last night and was amazed at the similarities with other helmeted entities of humanoid types reported from around the world, often with wings too. I immediately thought that the "monkey man" moniker was a misnomer. A "helmeted bugman" is more appropriate in my view.

These other reports had the similarities of encounters of bizarre 'helmeted' entities with eyes that were like inverted tear drop shapes.

In May 2001, reports began to circulate in the Indian capital New Delhi of a strange monkey-like creature that was appearing at night and attacking people.[1] Eyewitness accounts were often inconsistent, but tended to describe the creature as about four feet (120 cm) tall,[2] covered in thick black hair, with a metal helmet, metal claws, glowing red eyes and three buttons on its chest; others, however, described the Monkey-man as having a more vulpine snout, and being up to eight feet tall, and muscular; it would leap from building to building like a parcour enthusiast. Still others have described it as a bandaged figure or as a helmeted thing

The glowing red eyes are very similar to the mothman-type entity. There's possibly another cryptid responsible for the "as having a more vulpine snout, and being up to eight feet tall, and muscular; it would leap from building to building.."

Further sightings were reported in Kanpur in February 2002 and New Delhi in July 2002, the latter describing a monkey-like machine that sparkled red and blue lights.

The wikipedia entry Monkey-man of Delhi states that the original incident reports said the entity had glowing red eyes, yet the tv programme showed one red and one blue eye.

P.S. The giant insect hypothesis would fit with the metallic claws being made of chitin or more likely Elytron, the hard metallic-shiney substance which beetle wing covers are made of. A metallic sounding noise, reminiscent of dragging chains, is associated with red-glowing eyes seen at times of hangings in times gone by (wrongly attributed to the 'black dog' imv).

The source of the 'helmet' imagery of the bugman has evolved from the type of structure pictured here imv

This order of paleopterous insects appeared during the Carboniferous but is best known known from the Permian of Russia and North America, and more recently, Europe. They resembled mosquitoes in size, suctoral mouthparts, and structure, the head being armed with a beak with piecing mouthparts, and they may have been blood-sucking forms like some Diptera.

The fore and hind wings were similar, with the R vein was bent back at the base in the fore-wings, less so in the hind wings. The main veins were closely aligned in the basal part of the wing. As with the neoptera, these insects were able to fold their wings back over the top of their abdomen, but the mechanism of folding is not clear. They constitute a separate neopterous development that is unrelated to the true Neoptera.

The 'hooded reaper' type entity could also be imagined evolving from this beaked insect morphology.

In 2002, I was in the process of being discharged from the British army after being injured in Kosovo. One night in a military hospital, a strange thing happened. I was on my bed, fully awake. I hadn't gone to sleep nor had I been asleep or just woken up; I was fully awake.

It was night and the room was dark, but the door was open, letting light in from the ward. A being around 7 feet tall appeared by the side of my bed, dressed from head to toe in a black cloak, no skin visible. Another patient in the other bed opposite saw it as well and shot out of the room, but I couldn't move, except for my eyes.

What I don't understand is how it manifested next to me. It never appeared and it never approached. It did something completely different, really strange, and nearly impossible to describe. (I have found a video of a British police officer describing his experience that is identical to mine, the important part starts at 4:05 but watch the whole video if you can.

It placed an image in my head of a wand with a snake wrapped around it, which is exactly the same as the rod of Asclepius. And Asclepius was a hooded health god (like Telesphorus). No, I don't believe they are demons. That would be a cop-out. I believe they're extra-dimensional, and I think I have used logic to arrive at a plausible explanation.

Ten years on and I still dream about that incident. The positive side to that experience is that I now hold a BSc (Hons) Natural Science and a BSc (Hons) Astrophysics as a direct consequence, so it wasn't all that bad, and it has changed me completely. For all that stereotyping is worth, it has changed me from a typical beer-drinking, womanizing squaddie to a more-rounded person that I feel I am today.

Black-Cloaked Entity Changed My Life

I just read the story "Entity in a Robe" and I nearly had a heart attack, because the exact same experience happened to me on May 23rd 1996.

It was the night before my sixth birthday, I think. I woke up in the middle of the night because I had to go to the bathroom. On my upstairs floor, there's a hallway where my room is at the end, my brother's is on the side, next to mine, and my parents' room is down the hall. Right next to their door is the staircase. Half way through, there is a window. For some reason, every time I walk by there, I have a tendency to look over at the window. Only this night, it was different.

Standing before the window was this black thing... in a black robe and a black cloak/hood thing over it. Basically, it was all black. Its face – I don't remember all that well – I think it was green. It sort of looked like an orc from Lord of the Rings or something, but it was different. Its eyes, they were evil. Just pure evil. They were black holes into nothing. And it was grinning at me. The most evil grin I have seen in all my life. It was so horrifying I can't even describe it in words. Whenever I moved, its eyes would follow me. I could just tell that it wanted me. It wanted to lure me into something.

So I ran as fast as I could into my parents' room, and I woke up my dad. I was screaming and crying and yelling... and he didn't understand what was wrong. I told him that there was a ghost – an evil ghost. I begged him to protect me. I showed him where I saw it, and just as I was expecting, it was gone. I've never seen it since. I've only seen it a couple times in my dreams.

Another Robed Figure

Another black-hooded figure with the red eyes, frightening but not threatening -- and with a sense of humor! I remember when I was maybe about 5 or 6 years old (I'm 21 now), an amazing experience that I remember very clearly. It was very late at night and I was in my room by myself. My parents slept in the room next to mine. My window and curtain were open and my bed head was positioned underneath the window but the right of it and the bed faced towards my door which I always left open.

I had gotten up for some reason, either to go to the toilet or to get something to eat, but I was standing facing my open door when suddenly the black figure appeared from the side of the door and moved to stand in the doorway facing me! I stood facing it and it stood in the doorway facing me. I felt strong feelings, indescribable feelings, and it was as if it was communicating with me through these powerful emotions, although nothing absolutely clear, like a particular word or sentence or even a particular feeling I could isolate. But I felt immense awe and shock and it was all black, and it was like as if it was wearing a heavy black robe and its face was also black, but it had very bright red eyes like the red light near a TV or stereo switch, or the red dot sight people have on firearms.

It was dark, but he was much blacker than the surroundings. Then, maybe after about 30 or 40 seconds, my fear finally succumbed and I jumped back into bed and dived under the bed covers! And I lay there being as still as I could, petrified, but then I started to wonder and to question whether what had just happened was real and my heart rate slowed, so I peaked out from under the covers and he was still there but he was now next to my bed and he was looking out the window but turned to look at me and his red eyes faced mine! And I retreated back under the covers again!

But then seeing as nothing threatening was happening I peaked out again and he was facing the window as if looking out of it and he turned to look at me again. We were very face to face and it was as if he did actually have features amongst the blackness, but they were hard to discern because its like his whole body, face and big black robe were exactly the same color, black like Batman's suit. During this time it was like we were sort of communicating with the feelings being evoked, nothing clear, like a word or a picture, but feelings nonetheless. He was very frightening and I was frightened and he probably could have been evil, but somehow I didn't feel that he was in hindsight. He actually evoked a humorous nature and seemed interested and seemed to understand why I would be terrified and it was as if he was trying to highlight to me how absurd the situation we both were in -- it was so ludicrous!

We looked at each other for maybe only a 10 or 20 seconds, then its like he thought, "Okay... enough now," so I went back under the covers and actually had a good sleep and I woke up remembering what happened, but for some reason I did not tell anyone the next morning and it was only until I was about 17 that I began to remember and to talk about it, at first remembering back with fear, but the more I think about what actually happened I'm not afraid of it.

I think that if I thought he was evil he might as well of been evil, because my fear would of conquered me and then what could anybody do, the figure included, to convince me otherwise. The trick is to not let your fear control you and to control yourself, because your body and your mind is yours alone and it's your vehicle, no one else's. You can master yourself and if you can do that nothing can dictate to you what goes into your head but yourself.

Black-Hooded Figure With Red Eyes

Note to self: could red eyes and black eyes be a female/male identifier morphology?

I was outside talking on the phone with my girlfriend when suddenly my reception began to cut in and out. It was a particularly warm night, yet still I felt a chill and I began to get goosebumps. Out of pure instinct, I turned my head slowly to the right. At first I didn't see anything. Then "it" flickered into my vision out of nowhere.

I thought at first that maybe I was hallucinating. It didn't make any sense that I would see a black-cloaked spirit/entity moving so swiftly as to seem to disappear and reappear in a new area. I grew sadder as it approached me. Instantly, I ran into the light, probably because I have seen many horror films where ghosts can't enter light. Then all of the sudden I was staring face-to-face with a hovering figure with a ghostly white and aged face. I turned around and tried to make it go away, but I could feel it drag its icy cold fingers down my spine.

I began to burst into tears and yelled for my dogs. I have always been fascinated with paranormal activity and read that dogs can ward off evil spirits, so I called my dog Gizmo outside. As she walked through the doggy door, she began to do something I had never seen her do before: she began to cry and whine, and scurried back inside. Then I called my dog Snowbell, knowing she was more naive than Gizmo and would come straight to me no matter what. She ran in my direction, but right before she got to the light where I was standing, she strafed to the side and began to recoil, as if something had tried to grab her.

This story includes the sound of wings:

This occurred during either the spring or summer of 1973. We live in Conwy, North Wales in the U.K., and I was 11 years old at the time it happened. I was often afraid to sleep in my own room, due to the much talked about ghostly and other supernatural happenings always on my mind. I shared my father's bedroom and we slept in separate beds on opposite sides of the room.

I was fast asleep in my bed on the night in question, and I have absolutely no knowledge of what was said to have happened other than from what my father recounted. It was well past midnight toward the very early hours of the morning, when suddenly my father was awakened from his sleep by the sound of flapping of large wings, quickly followed by a loud thud, as if someone had jumped off a table on to the floor -- on the bedroom floor somewhere near the foot of his bed.

My father then opened his eyes and was struck by what he saw. Standing right there, approximately three feet away from the foot of his bed, was a 7-foot-tall figure clad in a long black cloak that reached down to at least past the visible level of the bed. His first impression of this figure was that it was a nun. But on fully focusing his eyes and attention on it, my father then realised that it wasn't a nun, but something eerily different.

He described it in more detail: the figure's black cloak began where it was wrapped around the top and sides of its head, like a nun's habit, then covering down its shoulders and dropping down vertically to as far as my father could see from his position. He could not recall seeing any arm sleeves.

The thing's face was clearly visible to him and all-too-well defined: the eyes were long and slanting, and the nose was long and very broad. The face had a snow-white complexion and gave my father the impression that it was wearing a mask. Another thing that he sensed about this being it that it possessed great intelligence (in a spiritual sort of sense), and also had a rather strong feeling that he had encountered this being before somewhere in the distant past, perhaps in a past life.

So this being just stood there in the exact same spot as it first appeared and made absolutely no motion. My father noticed that its eyes seemed to be fixed in the direction of somewhere between my own bed where I was asleep and a bedroom cupboard, laying on top of which was a book called The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft and the Supernatural - or Magic and the Supernatural.

Then suddenly this being's eyes flicked away (as if from behind a mask) from where it was gazing and was now fixed directly at my father. It was rather as if this thing had noticed or sensed that he had awakened and was watching it, and so switched its attention in his direction. Now while my father was not actually afraid of this being's presence up to that point, he was now overcome with a great sense of fear and felt compelled to turn his gaze away from it and to turn over so that his face was toward his pillow.

Note to self: both all black and ghost white faces described. Mostly featureless and mask-like, others old/wrinkled looking.

You do realize that the excessive use of hallucinogenic drugs can cause long term health issue, right? You know it might be that these are not giant bugs after all, but may in fact be flying hyraxes! Think about it!

Hah - people have long memories!

Funnily enough, I think some reports have been mixed in with the genuine 'helmeted bugman' type. The wikipedia page Monkey-man of Delhi describes a second set of sightings thus:
..others, however, described the Monkey-man as having a more vulpine [ed: fox-like] snout, and being up to eight feet tall, and muscular; it would leap from building to building like a parcour enthusiast.. Theories on the nature of the Monkey Man ranged from ... to an Indian version of Bigfoot.

The Indian version of bigfoot or hairy humanoid I put down to hyrax evolution, evidenced by the medulla hair analysis of the sample taken of the Sumatran Orang Pendek (short man) as well as the correct number of toes and high social intelligence and use of syntax to communicate.

Strange but true?.. P.S. I'm only drinking beer to take the edge of things nowadays.

Helmeted DRAGONFLY

On Friday, September 23, 2011, a 56-year-old man from London, England recorded footage of a mysterious creature he filmed while observing dragonflies in his back yard.

Eyewitness states: "While filming a dragonfly I inadvertently captured some kind of alien critter doing strange things next to the dragonfly and whilst going through this footage I discovered that the dragonfly, just before take off appeared to have some kind of helmet device, which opened up exposing a head from inside it. It's like a Transformer. I have trawled the internet to find a comparison but was unable to find anything like this! It makes me wonder whether the dragonfly is real or not?"
