I've visited Malaysia, including the "mainland", some islands and Borneo. In terms of its natural resources, it's a beautiful country.

Mind you, I haven't been there in many years.

Politically, I know that there have been all kinds of problems. Religious fanaticism and corruption certainly don't help any country.

Our national debt is >1 trillion, more than our yearly GDP.
We cannot pay back the debt and economy is stymied, less investment, less jobs, 60% graduates unemployed,
currency value drops, property market down etc.
And Covid19 is high, daily 6000~7000cases, more death reported.
ICU is full.
No ending to all sorts of problems.

Hopelessness is often a temporary condition, though often recurring. People who attempt suicide and fail are likely to change their minds, though not permanently. The bottom line is that the impulse to commit suicide doesn't correlate directly to the reality of the person's situation.
