ok love that crazy thing that is undescribable by most and it the thing that socity values the most but what is it? no one seems to know. Is it really imporantant as they say? does it even exist?

thoughts?

No it doesnt. i wouldnt bother trying anyone out therwe. u can give everything youve got and theyll keep on taking. just lie and cheat your way into girls knickers lads. u might as well.thats the way forward for me.

Love is overrated and fictional. There is no love in this world. Hate is a better emotion. Things get done, stupid people are annihilated for the common good, and intelligent leaders rise out of the ignorant masses! Love only serves to blind us to the truth, and cushion our weak hearts in times when real courage should be shown!

lol, ok, my anti-love rant is over :D

Love's real. It's as real as the sun's warmth on your face, and the cool breeze in your hair. Love is essential to human life, because it ties us together. We need it to survive.

(How disgustingly gushy!)

I hate both my explanations. This sucks. (my post, not this thread) :)

BlueSoul, did you come up with those explainations yourself, or did you rip 'em off from somewhere?

The reason I asked is 'coz.......they're rather good :)

Love is strange. I am a very level-headed person, but lately I've been in love with a girl and I have nearly gone insane thinking about her. Love is not explained so easily as strife. I've been questioning things like the purpose of existence because of this girl. When I think logically about the whole thing, she is very insignificant in the grand scheme of things. My point is that love has a more strange and unpredictable effect on a person than anything else I know of.

Love is different from person to person, but I'm sure it exsists

Love is a specific set of neurochemical reactions that can be viewed, if one so chooses.

However, what this is varies from person to person. Different people love in different ways.

It's whatever you want or think it to be, and it is indescribable. Adding adjectives onto it only complicates the description.

Bluesoulrobot!?? r u gay?? :bugeye: sounds to me like u skip everywhere :D

i agree with the above bio-chemical explanation for love. it's all about the chemicals, baby.

Wouldn't it be soooo funny if you could synthesize something that would stimulate the production of those chemicals, and then you added it to water sources all over the world?

Does it matter the love is carried to your mind through chemicals? Does that really make it any less beautiful? Are you sure about the current explanation of love? Newtons original laws of physics have been changed. Can you write anything in stone in a universe made of shifting sands? The chemiacal reaction of love. It seems like no more then a machine with simple commande fonctions. The world in natuarly organic. To impose a machinist world view is only to impose our conceptions.

If in the end all that is waiting for us is the worms. Does that make life any less beautiful?

Neville... grow up

What kind of love are you talking about?
Erotic love?
Platonic love?
or love as in empathy and compassion for ones fellow beings?

The english language tends to generalize to much for my taste.

What is the difference between Erotic and Platonic Love. I personally wouldn't say that they are forms of love more so just forms of passion.

Well, it may just be chemicals but it is powerful.

I can't put it any better than Conor Oberst :
-----------------
Love is real
It is not just in novels or the movies
It is fact
And it is standing here right in front of you
So if you open your eyes, oh what a sweet discovery
There is hope, and there is joy, and there is acceptance
So now let all of the light that collects on your plants
Keep you warm, make you smile
And I will be there with this pen in my hand
To record all the while
You'll be laughing so loud that the house would shake with sound
And everything will be as new as the day it was found
Love is real
It is not just in long distance commercials
Or something that you thought you felt back in high school
So I will turn black and white
Become that horoscope you're reading
It predicts something good is on its way
Oh, and then I will send you the world green and blue
In a box through the mail
You can open it up, hold it right in your hand
And be glad that it's there
And be glad that you're there
You can feel all the knots in your stomach start to untie
And suddenly it's not so hard to say you're all right
Love is real
It is not just in poetry and stories
It is truth, and it will follow you
Everywhere you go from now on
So if you'd just cast off your doubt
Then your lips would answer for you
Oh my darling, when you smile, it is like a song
And I can hear it now

If love wasn't essential to human existance why would we have such a complex system of chemicals so as to experience it? Why would we evolve it if it had no purpose to the human state of mind. We enjoy this feeling because we recignize it as a good feeling almost a feeling of completion. True love could be simply a reaction to ensure the survival of the species. But since human have thinking mind we need to have such states to bring meaning to our existance other. Mabye evn for a couple to stay together to ensure the survival of the offspring. That still doesn't mean the love could have come from some where else. It is not god in the cracks here. There is allways the possibillity that love is nothing more then chemicals. Does that make it any less real? I see your point fadingCaptain.

I think I made them up, but they could have easily been spawned by society. Which brings me to wonder if there's any originality left in this world.....

Thanks for the compliment! :D

This is a gross misunderstanding of neuroanatomy. I'd advise you to re-take high school biology.

If in the end all that is waiting for us is the worms. Does that make life any less beautiful?

Only if you're a pathetic, whiney, new-age brat who can't accept ultimate annihilation. ;)

Amen. This is a bit tangent from the original thread, but I think the fact that life is only chemicals makes it even MORE beautiful. It just shows the fragile little balance and harmony that has been achieved after years and years of "perfecting." If you say some supernatural force or higher power has done all this, doesn't it make it less special, less of a miracle? It's so easy to say some creative force did all of this, so where is the beauty?

Nebula:

I totally agree. The realization that everyone and everything I know will end is one of the most sublime and piquent emotions I have ever experienced.

There will never be another sunrise like tomorrow's.
You will never be fucked like you were tonight.
I will never have another drink like this one.
The air will never feel this cold again.

Ad infinitum. It's really only when we realize that there is nothing beyond our world that we truely cherish our world.
