There's a petition protesting the next Lord Of The Rings movie. Apparently “The Two Towers” is an obvious reference to the World Trade Center, and is inappropriate and offensive.

My personal favorite:
1146. cathy clinton - i pray every day that mr jackson will see the light and pull the plug on this project. Mr Tolkien if that is his indead his real name does not seem to be a very christian person to be so cynically cashing in on this tragedy.

These people don’t stop to think that maybe things are older than their memory, or that the whole world does not revolve around their little urban area. The thing that frightens me the most is, if these people are serious, they can also VOTE!!!

Yeah, I had my genital size reduced too (sarcasm, sarcasm here!!!) because it reminded me of just the one world trade center building standing up....
 
No I was serious. A little martian appeared on my keyboard and typed the sarcasm thing, little buggers are fast. So just ignore it like you already have.
 
My goodness, typical! Thought it were the Twin Towers. So, every time two "objects" of the same size show up, it reminds the "good" americans of the WTC attacks? Oh well, you can overdo it... What a stupidity... :p

Obviously they don't know that Tolkien is resting in peace for quite some time now.

Mind you, I'm of the opinion that these people are insanely stupid, especially the petition note included in the topic sentence. But the breast reduction and the Clinton bit advise me that maybe I should sign this petition.

So I propose that we all truck over and sign off with equally-ridiculous measures. Everyone's got a spambox, right? Use that instead of your real e-mail.

But sure, make this petition out to be as ridiculous as possible. Lend your efforts to protecting it. Fellowship didn't thrill me greatly, but I'm not going to stop them from producing more. So the best thing to do might be to undermine the petition with such entries as the "Clinton" signature.

I'm in.

Edit: Of course, if I'd even bothered to look at the petition, I would have seen the proclamation:

Well i have to say that i really feel sorry for anyone who lost someone in 11/9 but this is ridiculas

Tolken probably died before they BUILD the twin towers

The book was definitly writen before they built them and how DARE they expect the name changed

All I could do was watch helplessly as she passed away.

Couldn't dial 911 for help. :D

Guess they have to make a re-make from all the movies that already excist and are located in New York too, with always a camera-shot of the Twin Towers. No more watching of old movies, made before Sept. 11 2001... :( :bugeye:

Sheeze, some people's kids. I find it hard to stomach these overly good americans, If this petition is real, what do they hope to do? Actually force Peter Jackson to change the name? Who are they kidding, why are these bozos even attracting and kind of real attention?
If I hear one more person tell me how offended they are at something so inane, I'm going to start hurting people....

It's not just LOTR:
I, too, was galled, shocked and disoriented upon learning of the cynically crass title of Mr. Jackson's new film. I would also like to start a petition to rename Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report" because of its blatant insult to people of color. Also, the upcoming film "About A Boy" is a clear endorsement of pedophilia. I am also deeple troubled at the subtitle of the new "Star Wars" installement, "Attack of the Clones." This scandalous title is a none-too-subtle implication that scientifically duplicated humans or other animals are violent and hostile in nature -- clearly an affront to copied citizens everywhere. We shall make no progress until Hollywood stems its insensitivity to those factions of society it chooses not to understand. As an avid filmgoer, I shall shed many tears until these senseless titles cease.
