LEVITICUS 18:22 "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind, it is abomination." (KJV)

What does this mean to you? What's your take?

"God commands you to kill all the gays."

That is Jewish law , but Yashua said to the woman who was to be stoned , " go sin no more " same for the homosexuals and Pope Francis said ""If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.

His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten. Amen

That is what it really means. Unfortunately.

No not really. An abomination means disgust.

That said, blasphemy was to be punishable by death. (This is also in Leviticus)

I have a hard time with the OT, frankly.
No question.

Yeah, and guess what you do with abominations? Something involving rocks.

Well, in fairness you're adding to it.

But...Leviticus itself. That's a peculiar book, and one in which there exists a litany of "rules" that no one follows, today.

Things that make you go hmmm.

I know you're just being flip.

I hope. ;)

No, not at all. From a few chapters later:

"Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying . . . . If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them."

Which is why it is best to take the Bible with a grain of salt.

Was talking with a friend who believes in God, but has issues with some areas of the Bible as do I, and she said if you look at some of the interpretations of these "harsh" passages from modern day pastors, authors, etc... ppl "soften" them up to mean something else less offensive. But...back then? People were stoning ppl to death for those same things.

Hard to take the ENTIRE thing literally. But then what? Throw the baby out with the bath water?
You know?

I have a feeling that many of the 613 laws are man made . the title is 10 commandment then within the 10 they broke down into 613

Oh, agreed. In fact the entire Bible is manmade - which is why it's good to not take it _too_ seriously.

The entire civilization is manmade, which is why it is not good to take it too seriously?

You are part of this civilization, maybe we shouldn't take you seriously too.

That it is ok for men to lie to women but not to other men. If it had been about gay sex, it would have said "lay" not "lie". ;)

If they were morally wrong about that, what else could they be wrong about? Maybe everything?
Jesus basically said the only rule needed was to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Long lists of "rules" are for children, not adults. Unfortunately, we raise a lot of old children these days.
