It's V-J Day.

You had me checking out Wiki there for info.

America remembers on Sept 2nd ( Day of signing of Surrender Document). On this day 1945 World War 2 was over for all.
UK remembers on Aug 15th ( The day of the initial announcement of Japan's surrender).

Do any of you have living relatives who fought in that war?

I don't any longer, but they were brave souls who went as children and came back men, and very quiet about what they'd seen and had to do.

That's why we remember.

I've met a lot of commissionaires who fought in World War II, from a sailor who fought in the Battle of the Atlantic to an air gunner in Bomber Command. My dad had a friend who was with the Canadian Army at Hong Kong and spent some time in a Japanese prison camp.

Three of my neighbors when I was in school were on Saipan. I had to look it up on a map.
