IRAN’S president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, attended a meeting in Syria earlier this year with one of the world’s most wanted terrorists, according to intelligence experts and a former national security official in Washington.

US officials and Israel intelligence sources believe Imad Mugniyeh, the Lebanese commander of Hezbollah’s overseas operations, has taken charge of plotting Iran’s retaliation against western targets should President George W Bush order a strike on Iranian nuclear sites.

Mugniyeh is on the FBI’s “Most Wanted Terrorists” list for his role in a series of high-profile attacks against the West, including the 1985 hijacking of a TWA jet and murder of one of its passengers, a US navy diver.

Now in his mid-forties, Mugniyeh is reported to have travelled with Ahmadinejad in January this year from Tehran to Damascus, where the Iranian president met leaders of Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Hamas.

Is it possible the newspapers and T.V. reporters have all lied to me about the war on terror only being a ruse for Bush's stealing Arab oil.

There is a threat to the US. Anytime you live in a world where people ABSOLUTELY hate you, there is a threat. Besides, we are a war. It isn't called the war on terroism for nothing. In war, there are always casualties on both sides.

The russians are shrewder than americans. Afterall, they have on their backs the burden of WWII for the allied forces. They faced the blitzkrieg. They know what war is like. Their geography places them closer to the middle east. Also, you've got to ask yourself, what are the gas prices in Russia? Is it in their best interest to participate in this war or take control of the oil supply in the middle east. If it is, watch out. There could be yet another cold war.

To me, the ultimate goal of the current US administration seems to be complete worldwide westernization. Coupled with the dominance of the dollar (over whose preservation great pains are being taken), the United States stands to establish a global empire without claiming another acre of territory; not an empire of military might, mind you, but an economic empire, where every place on the planet is home to a market for American businesses. The perceived threat of terrorism across the American homeland presents a golden opportunity to advance this agenda, and I believe the policy makers in Washington are well aware of it.

This situation means that there most definitely is a real threat, not only from Iran and al Qaeda (who are probably allied because they are philosophically sympathetic; al Qaeda has been reaching out to shady Islamic organizations for mutual support lately), but from many nations and organizations around the world, possibly including Russia. It's partially because the United States is run by irresponsible idealogues; I don't know what the reaction would be if we stopped meddling in Middle Eastern affairs, however. Any thoughts?

If you have a problem with it, call for your government to not invade. Simple as that. We're the aggressors, not Iran.

And no, the Cold War never ended. You expect Russia to be our complete buddies? Every superpower wants to rule the world. It's an endless manipulative game. Of course countries who aren't #1 are going to back countries going up against that #1 country so that country becomes weaker while theirs gets closer to the top.

Iran has become a hero in the eyes of the Muslim masses in the world because it promised to fund Hamas government despite Western pressure. As the confrontation grows closer, Iran will only grow stronger and every time the US criticizes Iran and Iran pursues a policy opposite to America, the masses in the Middle East love Iran more and more.

Even the Iranian leaders wanted to meet with the government officials of Iraq and the US planned to meet them, but the Irnaians said we want to meet with the Iraqis who are have the right to Iraq, not the Americans, Many people in Iraq sided with irans stance, and many of the leaders of Iraqis spoke out against America.

It seems every time the US pursues an agenda in the Middle East, it backfires and results in completely opposite results (as is evident in hamas democratic victory and the controversy over Iranian fuel enrichment).

The TV and media are NOT widely reporting that the war in Iraq was about oil, although recently they do mention the possibility from time to time. In fact it was about the oil not being within our control. The US literally eats and breathes oil, we are addicts.

Perhaps, but in this case it would be one that we provoked. Someday, Iran might develop a nuclear weapon(5-10 years), but it is one nation among many that will have them. The leaders of Iran are not popular (15%), and are not largely supporting terrorism against the US, but you can be sure they will if we attack them. If we attack them, it will also strengthen the Mullah's power, as DiamondHearts pointed out.

It could have been. It was heading in that direction before Bush. North Korea's nukes were under constant observation with their cooperation, but under Bush, the cameras are gone.

The Russians have been trying to negotiate a deal with Iran to enrich uranium for them, and thereby deprive them of nuclear material for weapons, but the deal fell through.

These remarks implied "Russia was no longer a world power", when in fact she has all the nukes of the C.I.S. at her disposal - as many as America and most warheads are 10 to 20 times the size in megaton-age.
Russia is no longer a "poor" nation, though the media made statements at G-8 meetings, like "all the wealthiest nations are coming, the G-7- plus Russia"
She has the black-sea pipeline creating billions in revenue, and is building a Russian-Sino pipeline to sell to china.

I disagree in one point though... the threat IS the USA... the USA is not in defensive, it is not being atacked... it is imposing it's desires and threatening to atack whoever oposes to them... everyone else is just fighting back to keep their national sovereingty(sp?)

You bring up some good points, however I would disagree with you on this point. Different personalities among the Sayyid in Iran have different levels of popularity, even among the religious system there are still diverging interests and views on how to run the country.

Comparing Iran to the majority of Muslim nations in the world, you will see that the leaders of Iran are very popular among Iranian people. Muslim populations in general are more supportive of religious rule based on their culture and heritage rather an outside influences or military dictatorships. This trend has been increasing ever since America's war on 'terror.'

I personally have travelled in a few parts of Iran and have met and am friends with many Iranians in Middle East and West. I perosnally have noticed Iranians take great pride in their country and its religious system and will support it strongly attacked by America. Iraq, from its artificial creation after European withdrawal was an unstable country. Iran, however, has a rich and closely tied heritage and culture. Iran also has good trade relations and has been relatively peaceful as a nation.

Also, as can be seen from Iran's great leaders like Imam Khatami, religious leaders are very popular, and also the Sardar Mahmud Ahmadi Nejad who acts like a normal Iranian and wears casual clothes is seen as a man from the people representing their views.

Good point, I agree. I have always believed and furthered the notion to Americans that they should withdraw to their Christian morals and ethics of behavior rather than the open permissiveness that is displayed today.

Also, Muslim governments (most of which do not represent their people) are being used to further the interests of the West, Russia, and many stronger powers. Most of the masses see this, but are really helpless to change this.
