If its not fun, you're in the wrong profession. Long hours, relatively poor pay (for the amount of personal investment) and a 99% failure rate.
For every one thing you do find that works, there are 99 that don't. If you're lucky.
Even finding a failure helps - you've discovered what definitely doesn't work!
Only a scientist would say that.
Unfortunately his funding agency rarely has the same view.

Shit! I want a glow-in-the-dark Kitty. My pathetic out-of-date models don't do any of the cool things that the newer cats do.
Note: in all honesty, the glow in the dark thing isn't really progress. When they genetically engineer a cat that can change its own litter box, then I'll get all worked-up.

Probably not for another couple years, given the ethical challenges we are sure to encounter. And they will probably choose an indicator gene that isn't so obvious if they are able to genetically modify and clone a human.
