Frankincense

Fortunately I don't suffer from arthritis, and am happy with ibuprofen for general inflammation, but my Aunt - a natural remedy advocate - thinks it works wonders in some of her "patients" (she's a Reiki practitioner). Not all, but certainly some.

Reiki is fairly flaky. People may like having hands laid on them but the stuff about "energy" is manifest ballocks.

What does she do with the frankincense? Burn it so they get a nice smell? Or is it applied to the skin in some way, or taken internally?

Oh, I'm with you on that. Probably being too kind to call it merely "flaky"... it's snakeoil that works through the placebo effect. I've long since stopped talking to her about it, lest I incur her wrath! ;)

Honestly, I have no idea. Only that she's mentioned it in the past.

Ah OK.

But then, that rather limits where we can take this discussion, I think.

Just asked her for details: she knows it as Boswellia, and she buys it in capsules - so taken orally. Not sure where this "discussion" is going, though, or whether it was just a closed question. But that's the info I have on the matter. :)

Interestingly it may not be ballocks. This is what the Wiki article has to say:

The use of Boswellia resin for spiritual and medicinal purposes dates back to ancient civilizations. Numerous compounds of different chemical categories are identified in the resin; the pharmacological actions of Boswellia resin are attributed to the complementary effects exerted by these compounds. Clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of frankincense resin in some disease conditions like asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases, osteoarthritis, and relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.[33][34] The essential oil obtained from the oleogum resin of Boswellia serrata showed antimicrobial activities.[35][36] Also, in vivo studies on animals revealed that Frankincense oleogum resin exhibits neuroprotective activity.[37][38]

I'm sure the Frankincense stuff might not be rubbish, just as other natural remedies might well be good for you. The Reiki, though... hmmm. Best I say nothing more. ;)

"fairly" flaky? :rolleye:
I'm recognising that some people may feel better, for a bit, after a ritual involving placing hands on their bodies, as I believe is done in a Reiki "treatment" a.k.a. ceremony.

It wouldn't work for you or me, as we would both be annoyed by the bullshit use of the term "energy" and the rest of the associated pseudoscience spiel.

I'm recognising that some people may feel better, for a bit, after a ritual involving placing hands on their bodies,

For me it is going to be who is placing their hands and where placing them

No ritual involved:)

:)

Yeah but you're just a dirty old man:D.

And I mean old. As in, older than God's dog, according to that picture you sent recently. :p
Although in his defense, he seems to have a bevy of girlfriends whose combined age still barely comes to half of his. B-)

Good for you!

I'm 12 years behind you........

And my dad is 14 years ahead of you. But there's not a great of him left that works.

Latest pic, few days ago, after haircut and beard trim. Then to optometrist for eyes testing. Apparently fairly stable since last testing 2 years ago. Still they said needed lenses upgraded

Photo shows frame I picked. Optometrist kindly gave me a copy of the script so I can give to a optometrist in Bali a buy a couple as backup

Looked up bevy. Definition is large group. I don't think my current group of five is a large group:)
Off to Bali tomorrow catching up with current group

1 - name I***** age 50 known 3 years
2 - name K**** age 47 known 18 years -
3 - name N**** age 46 known 3 years awhile back and reconnecting this trip
4 - name R**** age 27 known only on chat about 5 months, this first meeting
5 name W**** age 42 known only on chat about 2 months, this first meeting

Combined ages 212 so combined age still barely comes to half of his is a tiny bit out :)

So he says. At his age, it could all be in his mind of course........;)

Could be, but not :) :)

Four weeks holiday in Bali starting tomorrow and catching up with all five of the above ladies

You're right.

In the context of girlfriends, five is not a bevy; five is an army.

Well a couple are friends and co-operate in caring for me during my stranded time

I**"* was concerned about leaving me alone for 10 days and called jn K**** to look after me

Different world :)

:)
