After hearing about Heath Ledger i think it would be a good idea to have a thread about the services that are available in each country to help people with depression Just after I first joined this site I had a severe bout of depression. I did try to commit suicide and it was a friend from here who lived in the US who saved me. He found out all the personal information i had given to people here as well as that i had given to him and called the Victorian police who found me collapsed at home. In Australia the main services available if you suffer from depression is your GP or www.BeyondBlue.org.au or Lifeline www.lifeline.org.au/ 13 11 14 (Australia) Both are confidential services which are can provide support If you or someone you know are in immediate need please call 000 and asked for an ambulance or the police. They are both immensely supportive of people seeking help with depression. They would much rather attend early and take someone to help than arrive to collect the body Please don't leave it until the call to triple 0 is for a suicide attempt
There are only two reasons why people commit suicide- exessive illegal substance abuse, or they just can't wait to find out what happens when they die.
or chata the person is selfish! the main person to get help with depession for from in the uk is you GP, who will either give you medication or refer you to a depression counsellour
You obviously don't know anyone who has committed suicide. I am refraining from making a presumptuous comment about your age. To people who feel its selfish, what would you say Asguard?
i wouldnt waste my time responding. I have both been suicidle and suffered depression for much of my life, watched my cousin go through suicidle depression and had 2 of my friends comit suicide. Not only I have watched what was probably suicide by motor bike happen right in front of me and i have lissioned to the tripple 0 call of a woman who found her husband hung from the garage roof. Further more i am training to be a paramedic and depression was my mental health assignment and i have lissioned to the stories of our paramedic lectures dealing with depression and other mental illnesses, and suicides and suicide atempts. So what do i feel about people who think suicide and depression are a joke? I feel nothing but contempt for them Edit to add: I would just like to point out the purpose of this thread is to show people suffering depression that help is there for them if they need it. When I tried to comit suicide it was a former member here living in the US along with others here who saved me. He made a thread here to get all the infomation he could get on me and then rang the Victorian Police from the US and they found me. So dont underestamate the importants of ANY social conection.
It is those who say such a thing who are selfish. They care more about themselves missing the person who is gone than the pain the supposed loved one was going through that drove them to suicide in the first place. It is ignorant, self-absorbed comments like that which often drive people to not seek help.
People who think depression is a joke are beneath conempt in some sense but I feel allowances should be made for them as they are obviously ignorant of what depression entails. While I know that depression can have many causes, my gut feeling is that it is ultimately down to a chemical imbalance in the brain. Here in the UK, apart from what has been mentioned above , we have a voluntary organization know as the Samaritans. They are trained counsellors who are available on the phone 24/7 365 days a year. Many people who feel lonely or desperate can talk to one of them for as long as is necessary.
ehh there's no hope for us, I am constantly out of wack and thinking of what it would be like to die. The entire systems screwed and all we can do is find forums and hope we live the next day, even on meds :S http://www.depressionforums.org/forums/
Did I miss something? I don't see where Tresbien made any such comment in this thread, only that such a comment was quoted and added to this thread. I also don't see how quoting the Qu'ran is equivalent to preaching. It seems more like a different angle of perception. Maybe someone can explain?
Firstly, yes you are posting off topic. Secondly, there are rules in this forum and if you are going to start posting huge blocks of texts from another site, you actually do need to post a link to it. It was quite obvious it was copied from another text since you did not even bother to remove the footnote numbers in the text. Now, what you are basically doing is plagiarism. I understand you have been warned of this beforehand and I am warning again, for the last time. Thirdly, no I will not repost the blocks of your plagiarised text that I have deleted.
I see now... Tresbien, I enjoy your company and would not like to see things go down in a depressing manner. If you use huge blocks of information from another site make sure to put it in italics and leave a link to the source. There is nothing wrong with doing this, but it can be confusing who said what if it is not done. Also, try to stick to the topic. You have mixed in Religion and Philosophy into a Human Science topic. The topics need to be somewhat isolated in order for them to develop smoother and quicker. I would like to learn more about the Qu'ran, could you start a Religion Thread that asks some good question or brings up a related inquiry to the topic at hand? And then as you build on it, please use the Italic and Link process to back up your points! Thanks!!! Jozen-Bo
Please be advised this thread is for posting links and contact details of services available in each country for people who are depressed and/or feeling suicidal. Asguard has provided the information for Australia. If you are in another country, please feel free to post similar details of the services available in your particular country or other countries that you happen to know of. Opinions on suicide and/or depression can be discussed in a thread specifically dealing with those subject matter if you wish to create it.
Those who commit suicide, should know that this life is full of afliction and is a place of trial and test.Life can be joyful if we are not materialisticallY inclined and have faith in ALLAH and what he stores of us in thehereafter. truly with hardship comes ease; truly with hardship comes ease. (Surat al-Inshirah, 5-6) … Allah does not demand from any self more than He has given it. Allah will appoint after difficulty, ease. (Surat at-Talaq, 7)
