Any animal that can dream can do this. That is why I believe dogs are conscious, they have dreams.Being conscious doesn't require any great degree of intelligence. Anything that is conscious has some degree of intelligence but that's about it.
I think the more interesting step is when conscious being are aware of the future. This would seem to eliminate most (non-human) animals.

However I am not certain dogs are conscious nor am I certain other humans, even my friends, are conscious. I may very well be the only conscious being in the universe.
Is it?Consciousness is mere awareness.
I think you're on to something.I don't think that consciousness and intelligence are linked/connected. Consciousness is mere awareness. You can be aware of your surroundings, but not very intelligent.
He claims to be a genius (super smart). What do you think? Are you thinking of Trump, too?![]()
If you have to tell people that you're super smart, you're likely not. He's not stupid, but definitely not a genius. lolHe claims to be a genius (super smart). What do you think?
I think he does it to stir the pot, a form of self-promotion. Obama was an eight-year-yawn.His high opinion of himself, is he over compensating, do you think?
And the ability to apply new solutions to old problems....the ability to apply known solutions to new problems.
Barely. They are capable of quorum sensing and responding to external stimuli. Is it?
Is a bacteria aware of its surroundings? (Yes.)
Is it conscious?
I think all animals are conscious

Proto-conscious?
What would you call quorum sensing? The hive-mind which is greater than the sum of its parts.Proto-conscious?
Not even close
Microtubule centers and the interphase microtubule cytoskeleton in amoebae of the cellular slime molds (Mycetozoans) Acytostelium leptosomum and Protostelium mycophaga.
What would you call quorum sensing?
What about the single celled slime-mold? Have you seen what they can do without a brain?
It's really astounding. All without a brain, but the entire body is sentient (sensitive to stimulation).
Right, landslides are not biological organisms reacting to external information. They merely react to external force. That's not sensing and acting on sensory information.Bog standard built in reaction
Like a landslide, conditions suitable soil will remain in place
Conditions changed, lots of land, wait for it, slides
Not a sensitive quantum in sight
No, you are not talking about biological systems where information is used to the benefit of the organism. You are citing purely physical conditions affecting everything in that environment.Just like the land in the aforementioned slide
Cousins in earthquakes and distant relatives volcanic ash much the same same.
