Another thing I came across was someone who suggested Trump's aim with his financial policies is actually to deliberately trash the economy. Why? Because, so the argument goes, he is assuming that the response to a trashed economy will be quantative easing (QE).
What QE does, or at least the way it has tended to be implemented, is in a way that boosts values of assets and not productivity. So house prices, commercial property, and most importantly stock prices go up. This latter benefits the wealthy, while those at the bottom end... not so much. The ones who won't complain will be those with a reasonable stock portfolio.
So every time you hear Trump (or President Musk) pushing an economic policy that you think might actually cause the US economy to crash, think about why they're doing it? Is it just misguided folly, or is it because they don't actually care, knowing, ultimately, they will be the ones to vastly benefit from any QE that follows a crashed economy?
Worth thinking about, at least? YMMV.
