Can you get by with just donations?

I hate gimmicky subscriptions (for x dollars and NINETY NINE CENTS of course) where you can stroke your ego with a bigger picture or whatever. I hope you can get by just on anonymous donations. I for one will be more likely to donate if there is not a separate subscription system. Just a data point from poor little me.

If you haven't started your own threads on donation, why don't you all start now and get it over with.
