Okay, get this...
A fellow sci-forumer (Rowen) and I made some campaign posters for a candidate running for a student government position at our college. We decided (with the candidate's approval, of course) that we should use different, memorable slogans, seeing as how ALL the other candidates posters are exactly the same. Here are some of ours:
- Vote Jeff: He's a gooder choice
- Low class is better than no class; why not vote Jeff?
- Jeff sucks and so do you. Vote for Jeff
- Vote Jeff: He's better at math than you are
- Vote Jeff: He puts the "u" in "team."
- Vote Jeff: Hey, at least I'm not a terrorist!
Guess what happened...
Some people felt that the "terrorist" poster was in bad taste; they felt it was racist and were offended by it.
So it was taken down.
First of all, what happened to freedom of speech?
And I'm not going to even bother pointing out the obvious racism (and thus, hypocracy) in automatically associating "terrorism" with any race.
What do you guys think? Was the poster in bad taste, or were these people overreacting?
