Best book ever written?

I thought the question was best book ever written not best ever best seller? I think you should be looking at bestsellerforum.com

I love this - the guy asks for people's opinions of the the best book then slams everyone's choice right after it is posted.

The Simarillion.

We come to expect that from johnj. i think he's hoping that someone will say the bible.

My Family and Other Animals Gerald Durrell

Nine Inch Nails, by Martin Huxley.

Seriously one of the worst things I have ever read. My friend liked it enough to buy it.

How the heck is the Simarillion better than L.O.T.R.? "My Family and Other Animals"? You've got to be joking. No. I said I thought top contenders would be The Bible and the Origin of Species. I haven't heard a suggestion yet that has topped those two.

Do you just want a thousand responses that repeat the bible and Origin of Species?

Victoria Beckham's biography.

I haven't heard a suggestion yet that has topped those two.

You're joking, right? Both are "good" books if by "good" you meant that they are influential, but in that case Newton's Principia Mathematica is probably more influential than the Bible in the long run.

On a literary level, neither is anywhere near Ulysses. And that's just what I pulled out of my ass.

I don't think Newton would agree that the Principia was better than the Bible. I'm not limiting this to fictional works like Ulysses. Besides, isn't The Iliad better than Ulysses?
