backslash777- man, machine, alien

Hoth,

You say Backslash made no such statement. He did in an email he sent me explaining who he was. I had thought he posted this here, but I was mistaken.

Here is an excerpt from the email. If you would like, I can post the whole email.

"Time went by and popularity grew and I carried my persona over to the Gaming world, playing Alien Versus Predator and gamers was thrilled to be playing with something different. Luckily, I have quite a talent and liking for online games and so this served to just back up what I pretended to be.

I spent an hour or so creating a long text file asking questions to which I could anticipate the answers while leading off and controlling the path of the conversation so I could simply copy and paste unbelievably long answers in real time live chat. It worked and people were genuinely astounded.

My objective was always this; to make people consider the possibility that I was something strange, something extra but I did not really want people to believe it wholeheartedly."

This, by the way, is the method I outlined earlier in this thread on how anyone could account for the response time which makes me wonder about the veracity of Backslash's response. I have seen other responses that Backslash has given that are copies of things I have seen elsewhere.

SOT,

Unless I'm interpreting it wrong, what he's saying here is that he would formulate his own q&a, lead the conversation to a certain topic, and when someone asked one of the questions he had anticipated, he would have his answer already done in a text file ready to be copied and pasted. I see nothing here about alternate identities.

Arron,

You make a good point. I was assuming that the 'real-time live chat' was in reference to the first few pages of this thread when in fact it could have been in reference to the ICQ conversation. I also connected Backslash's statements about creating alternative personalities with this statement which may not have been a valid connection.

However, if Backslash was not referring to this thread with his previous statements about 'real-time conversations', then how do you explain his response time with copious amounts of information to other avatars questions unless those avatars were in on the game or they are just Jonathan himself?

Same way. He's already explained it, by formulating answers to pre selected questions, directing discussion to a particular subject matter, and addressin ONLY those questions that coincided with the ones he already asked and answered. It's not unlike various techniques employed by magicians.

Go back through this thread and find me ONE example of someone asking Backslash a question on a topic Backslash didn't initiate, for which Backslash had an instantaneous response. I bet you won't find it. ;)

How about on page 2 when Einstein's Brain asks Backslash at 05:44 AM what his motives are and Backslash responds at 05:46 AM with a 294 word response. Even if you assume Jonathan can type fast, that means he can type 192 words a minute. That's pretty darn fast unless the question and answer were pre-canned in some form or another.

Also on page 2, Neg. Electron asks Backslash a question about what makes bacteria lethal at 07:15 PM and Backslash responds at 07:16 PM with a 92 word response that, while not tipping the scales of an expert typist, does have some fairly specific and pertinent information in it that either illustrates that Jonathan has a much more extensive education than he confessed to having or there was some type of collusion between Neg. Electron and Backslash.

But the post prior to that, backslash stated "We wish to research Artificial Intelligence and adapt Human thought process to fit the need for cyber personalities."

If he was leading discussion here by making this statement, it only makes sense that he would have already formulated the answer to the question, "Why?"

Perhaps there was collusion, but the response was short enough to have easily been typed in under a minute. And it wasn't really the most involved answer to begin with. Backslash simply demonstrated a basic knowledge of 2 very common bacteria: TB and Salmonella. My wife could have typed the same thing in under a minute, but NEVER would have been able to pull off the ruse that had so many folks fooled.

BTW, I was just pointing out that Jonathan never actually admitted to using multiple usernames here. I think he did. In the case of that "hacking" incident he must have created the account "Peanut ". Peanut is the one who posted the IP address that pointed to NASA. Also there was a user "God Mode" that backed that up. Could have been him, too. And now that I read back through some of the old posts, yes, neg. electron seems to interact a lot with peanut and god mode. And there are some grammatical similarities like "Learnt" and "Realised". How 'bout it Jonathan? ;)

Other sites have lots of threads over 1000 posts. Longest I've seen anywhere was around 40,000 posts.

I would like to know what can take 40,000 posts to elucidate a topic!

It doesn't take a good topic, it specifically requires a bad topic. :D Threads that get that long are always either chit-chat sorts of things, or games. Or a thread devoted to randomly switching between topics, like this (about 2100 posts). Nothing that long tends to be as interesting or on-topic as this thread.

SeekerOfTruth, your examples are proably the cases where the person had PMed \777 first, and then been told to post it in the thread to get an answer... thus he was ready for it.

Actually Hoth, the discussion I refer to was on page 2 and was initiated by Rodent asking if Backslash was asleep. Note there is no previous discussion on a topic. Rodent posts his question at 7:04 PM. Backslash replies at 7:05 PM. Rodent then disappears and Neg. Electron posts at 7:07 PM with a post commenting on Backslash's quick reply. Backslash replies at 7:08 PM. This back and forth messaging goes on until Backslash's last reply on this particular discussion at 7:19 PM. The longest lag for one of Backslash's responses to a question is 2 minutes.

This back and forth discussion kind of makes me wonder given Jonathan's explanation for his response time.

Thank you Teri, it's amazing how much warmth such a little sentence can cause :)

I meant to post a little comment to another post in this thread here...but I dont know how to pull the second quote over here...?

Alright alright, whos behind tht tourist identity?  :D
I appreciate the sese of humour, but tht's too far.

Not good enough Unhappy Tourist

You're going to have to prove it. Just post some more pictures of you and your family and we'll think it over.
PS Welcome.
Cheers
Teri :)

I skimmed through the first 10 pages of this thread and im totally confused.

Can someone explain this in a simple package :)

Hi Jordan, welcome

Your question has been asked before and unfortunately I can't remember where the answer is. If some of the others read this they might remember where the synopsis was done for one of the other members.
Sorry. I can only suggest skimming.

Can anyone else help Jordan?

By the way Jordan, that was some flame you threw at Q. Wow.

Cheers.
