I don't know that much about him, other than what I have read in news reports, eccentric, populist, right wing, etc. I don't expect much from Argentinian politicians but he at least has the right idea.

When you have a corrupt system and a judicial system based on Roman law rather than the Common law (like most of Central and South America) it's likely going to stay corrupt. At least he isn't Marxist.

I was in Argentina in the late 1980's (vacation) and it was the same then as now. It's a great country but the politician leadership is just corrupt and they don't have the same tradition of precedence under the law so there is a tendency to just keep changing to the law to favor whoever is currently in charge.

Hopefully he can turn things around but I'm not holding my breath.

All I know is that he pledged to gain sovereignty over the Falklands during his term. He claims that he and the UK have had discussions about it but, from a UK point of view, those discussions went along the lines of:
Argentina: "we'd like to discuss a solution to the Falklands issue, and regain sovereignty over them"
UK: "the issue has been settled. They want to be governed by the UK. End of debate"

No doubt the Argentinian president will claim that he has begun negotiations to achieve his aim, and he has acknowledged that war was not an option (they have tried that. And lost). But it's all just rhetoric from him. The UK position will not change unless the inhabitants want it to change.

And I also know he has the nickname "el loco", the mad man, so that augurs well. ;)

You take it for granted that the previous government was "overreaching". Why do you say that?
