Addiction is a Self-Afflication, Perhaps I'm heartless but I see it as being similar to suicide.

While I can understand certain types of torture might push people over the edge, getting wasted to the point of ODing is just slf-destructive escapism, if people are truly tortured they attempt to look for help and stop the self-destructive spiral.

Incidentally I couldn't say much about the loss, I didn't even know who she was.

You've never become addicted to any hard drugs or alcohol then have you?

She was a new girl on the block singing blues types of music. When she wasn't high she had a pretty good voice but when she was high it went to the shitter.

This is her a few years ago...

    Long long sigh.
What a waste of an amazing talent.
Music that no-one will ever hear.
The news made me feel like someone kicked me in the stomach.
Well, you can't say it was unexpected.
Just something you hoped wouldn't come to pass.

One of the greatest voices of our era. Gone.

    What a waste!

    She dwells with Beauty - Beauty that must die;
And Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips
Bidding adieu; and aching Pleasure nigh,
Turning to poison while the bee-mouth sips:
Ay, in the very temple of Delight
Veil'd Melancholy has her sovran shrine,
Though seen of none save him whose strenuous tongue
    Can burst Joy's grape against his palate fine;
His soul shall taste the sadness of her might,
And be among her cloudy trophies hung.

Maybe now she is at peace

It is just excess. These people have enough money to stay loaded so much that death is kind of more likely for them than a poor addict. Look at John Belushi.

I'm sorry but this is the image I'm going to always remember her as:

She was in life a walking, talking anti-drug advertisement, her death only amplifies the point: beware addiction.

    Kurt shot himself.
The music of my generation-full of sound and fury, signifying nothing(ness)...Depressing and empty.
    I miss that little f'er.

I wonder if the thing about 27 is that's when critical body systems start to go under the strain of use... or it's the natural progression of unrestrained addiction mixed with the need to medicate away the stress that too much attention gives these people.

I think it's reasonable to say that Amy Whinehouse is the Kurt Cobain of our time. Same talent and non-conformist, rebellious music, and same death

I don't think it is as simple as that.

I wish that the news of her death is fake, that it was all staged in order for her to "disappear" and start a better life elsewhere.

The Kaiser Dome in San Bernadino was an aluminum geodesic with a dirt floor and a 6 inch high wooden band stand at one end. Small, dirty, hot and crowded. The Doors played there that summer after they got kicked out of the Whiskey A Go Go for Morrison's saying "fuck" on stage. I was there for that, sorry that you missed it, Cosmic. I hung out in Hollywood then, it was a big deal to us teenagers when it happened. The only reason my friends and I went to the Dome was to hear the Doors play there.

Not everything you read on the Internet is accurate and true. A lot of stuff on the Internet is flat out wrong. What you have shown me is one of those wrong things. I was there, and it was 1967 not 1966.

It is not within your capacity to alter or edit my life experience to match contemporary historic fiction.

Her mother and father are behaving very graciously.
There are hundreds of mourners and they are treating them as though they were family.
    They seem like good people.
I think she had a good upbringing and was surrounded with a lot of love, but something was missing which she felt she could only fill with drugs.

I bet her parents would wish away all that talent if they could only have her back.

It happens all the time. Reach, spoiled girls start doing drugs to get attention.
It's sad but it's the reality of life.

Dude, look up some other famous dead young people, and you'll find a '28 Club' and a '22 Club' too. Oh, and all the other numbers.

    It's a puzzle though.
She came from a working class background, but she never had any rejection.
The music industry spotted a unique talent as soon as they heard her voice.
You wouldn't need to be Simon Cowell to know that she was a melodic goldmine.
Her friends adored her. She was called "mum" by many of them because of her caring nature.
Still, there was some self destructive streak in her.
If it hadn't been Heroin, or Crack, it would have been something else.
Her early death was a train arriving at its destination.

The media always goes crazy when a famous white girl dies.
Good to see that Amy is getting a lot of coverage even though she's British.

A terrible shame even when you expect it..I didn't know her music but the pictures say it all.
Layne Staley was who broke my heart..He actually lived 10 or 12 years after he stopped performing regularly, much longer than anyone expected. I think it was Heroin /crack. When you reach a that level of physical addiction dying high seems easier than the months of withdrawl.
Judging from the quality of life many junkies end up with it's hard to judge if life or death is a more humane option anyway.

Does anyone know what she was hooked on?
