About the Members 31: Norsefire

The round lasts a week so technically it would be today but I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. Spidergoat is a good choice, a very level headed poster.
Mhmm well then I'll post an About the Members: Spidergoat soon, I'll ask him if he wants

Im saying we WOULD get along. That for some reason, I like having friends who are like opposites of me, and I have several.

And not exactly completely opposite. Im sure we have some common ground, (not something I woulda said about you and I before reading this post, thats what Im tryna get at, ya feel me?)

But we certainly are opposites in social views. Im very liberal about how society should be.

Well, in a way I am too; now by this I mean, it's up to peoples' choices. However I'm more conservative, since even things I feel should be allowed I still find inappropriate.

Like prostitution, I think it's inappropriate but the free market is the free market. Same for homosexuality, etc, so I'm not necessarily a liberal in that I think it's "good" to allow these things, just that we should in a true free market.

How far are you willing to take this free market?

Well, ideally it'd be truly free, true freedom, absolute freedom, free of the state, i.e, anarcho-capitalism.

However as that is unrealistic, I like what Ron Paul is for and what he suggests. Ron Paul 2012:D

oh yeah, got a good one.

Do you think the ends justify the means?

It depends; as I am for the notion of "free market" and true freedom, no.

However if an absolute collective well being and efficiency is the goal, then yes, the ends justify the means. "For the greater good..."

omg man, you mess with my head!! I dont get you!!

This is what I mean, how does someone who says the above, say whats below in the same post???

What do you mean? I said "ideally", but that's unlikely and unrealistic so if we're gonna have government we should have Ron Paul

and the polar opposites, definitely in political/economic philosophy. anarcho-capitalist?!?! holy shit man that sounds scary. My philosophy is I'd be screaming "Revolucion!!" grabbing my machete if it ever went that far.

But would you agree that Paul is left of center on most issues? But you seem to prefer an ultra-right anarcho-capitalism??

Paul is extreme right on economic issues; he's "left" on the social issues (permissive and tolerant) but that doesn't mean he isn't a conservative, socially, he just understands that it is not his place to tell people what they can and can't do.

I understand being conservative on economic issues, but the majority of those people also happen to be conservative on social issues.

But its strikes me as odd that you would settle for Paul. I completely understand, I would vote for Paul over Obama, but Im dumbfounded...

It seems that your first choice would be complete fascist society, and since you know you cant have that Im dumbfounded by you going to Paul. Why not Palin, isnt she the voice of American conservatism now? according to Rush Limbaugh.. I find it crazy that you wouldnt just go for the next best thing..

I commend you for liking Paul's position.

He is, and I am; however just because we find certain things inappropriate doesn't mean we support banning them.

No I don't support fascism any more, though.

It's still an interesting societal theory and if collective survival ever becomes of topmost importance then fascism will be the best option, but for liberty we need capitalism.

Also keep in mind when I say "fascism" I mean the social theory of fascism, about emphasis on the collective and efficiency, not necessarily nazism or genocide or anything.
I commend you for liking Paul's position.
Thanks

As I was absent from posting last week, I hope you don't mind me asking now:

  • since you seem to change your fundamental belief so often, do you have insomnia?
  • who influence you the most, is it your friend, something you read, or...?
  • what is your ideal life?
  • can you summerize your current most important fundamental belief / views in 3 sentences?
  • do you think you might change your mind again?

Thx!

  • since you seem to change your fundamental belief so often, do you have insomnia?
  • Er, no, I don't have trouble sleeping.

[*]who influence you the most, is it your friend, something you read, or...?
    Personally, my mother

Philosophically, I arrived at my views through my own processes, but I found expansion and insight from the writings of many philosophers

    [*]what is your ideal life?
Having a large home in the suburbs, in a cold and gray place, with daughter(s), a lovely wife, and an important career
[*]can you summerize your current most important fundamental belief / views in 3 sentences?
    1. there is no power greater than the power of willpower
    2. one must never hinder himself unnecessarily in the pursuit of their own happiness
    3. one must seek knowledge and seek to make oneself better, always
[*]do you think you might change your mind again?
No. At most, I might revert to my previous ideological positions, or expand on my current ones, but it's basically between the two now.

Norsefire:

I've seen you argue in favor of both fascism and individual rights. Since the two are mutually exclusive, I was just curious as to what sort of political system you prefer?

2. one must never hinder himself unnecessarily in the pursuit of their own happiness

Even at others expense? To subjugate other peoples because YOU want to have everything YOU want without thinking of their regards?
