I was wondering if I should learn a 4th language and was thinking of italian since its partly similar to french and its also a "administrativ language" (or whatever you call it) here in switzerland but sometimes I think it would be interesting to learn a totally different language... something Scandinavian? Russian? Or Dutch? (With English and German I kann recognise some words)
Depends on what you wanna learn for, I suppose, and how different a language you want.
Dutch would be easiest of the languages you named. Not only are the words recognizable, but also the grammar is identical to German grammar, from what I can determine.
Scandinavian languages are Germanic, but they're North Germanic while English, German, and Dutch are all West Germanic.
Russian isn't Germanic, but is Indo-European, although it's in the "satem" branch rather than the "kentum" branch, meaning it's quite distantly related.
Also, I think you're trying to say that Italian is an
official language of Switzerland.
try chinese-mandarin or japanese. Russian is too hard to learn.
Some aspects of Russian may be harder than Mandarin, but I think overall Russian is easier than Mandarin.
And here another question: (has nothing to do with what i wanna learn)
Which Language will gain most importance for economic or political reasons in the future? Russian? Arabic? Chinese?
I hear Chinese will become very important, for economic reasons. I don't see Russian gaining much more importance until their economy improves, and I have no idea what Arabic's status is.
