How can a rocket land on the moon?

There is no air on the moon so parachutes do not work

Free fall is 9.82m/s2

Thrust would not stop the rocket crashing as the permeability of space would not produce enough opposing force for the thrust to have significant affect on the decent .

The decent what?

Is this even serious?

:)

Correct.

Close to the moon's surface it's only about one-sixth of that.

Rockets don't work by pushing against "space" (or anything else). They work by throwing mass out of the bottom of the rocket. The equal-and-opposite reaction to throwing the exhaust gases out creates a force on the rocket that pushes it up (forward).

So, the descent doesn't rely on the presence of an atmosphere or on any properties of "space".

In the first instance, we have to assume it's serious. Maybe this is a 12 year old child. Who knows?

Perhaps if Spencer666 took a bit more time to ask questions rather than assuming that he already knows all the answers, he might find that people are more disposed to give him polite answers. Some kids take longer than others to learn manners, however. Some never really learn, to their own detriment in life.

So, like, all twenty-some moon landings were faked? The rovers were really roving Siberia and the astronauts have been telling great big whoppers about their surface walks?
Boy-oh-boy, that's one expensive international practical joke!

That's correct!

Just view youtube videos of the landings , all very slow and controlled . Certainly not behaving as conventional physics would . The thrust is not enough to prevent a nasty hard landing .

What speed would a rocket approach the moon ?
What is the weight of the rocket ?

Well, that'll be the first time the Americans, Russians and Chinese all collaborated on the same elaborate hoax.
I wonder what the pay-off was.

Please post your evidence that the thrust would not be enough.

You only just learned how rockets work a few minutes ago, and now suddenly you're an expert on how much thrust they can produce? You must be a quick study.

What speed would a rocket approach the moon?
What is the weight of the rocket ?
What sources have you looked up already to try to answer these questions?

This guy has been trolling at least one other site with this stuff. There is no reasoning with him. He thinks Newton's 3rd law is a communist plot.

Hmm... Can't say I'm surprised. My general policy is to assume that people are being sincere, at least until there's clear evidence to the contrary. It looks like evidence is accumulating in this instance...

The Flying Bedstead worked on Earth, so I don't see what the problem would be on the Moon.
That was probably faked too. ;)

And hovercraft. Fake fake fake!

And helicopters! Fake!

And don't get me started on space probes landing on comets, and rovers landing on Mars. All fake, I tell you!

Although, to be fair, Spencer's issue was that there's no atmosphere on the Moon. Even Mars has an atmosphere, though only about 1% of Earth's. Maybe he can tell us if the rovers' thrust was enough for Mars or whether those were faked. As for the comet landing, that went wrong, which only goes to prove that landing when there's no air is impossible!

I wonder how rockets can manoeuver in space, like when they're going to dock with the International Space Station. After all, there's no atmosphere up there, either. Is the ISS a fake, too?
