What could go wrong with Trump in office?

The sky isn't falling. It just appears to, because the sea level is rising.

PS
The republican party has already committed ritual public self-evisceration. It can't recover, and there is little point in re-inventing it.

PPS That guy Blyth is damn clever. I'm listening to him now.

Good response, Jeeves! . . . . 'It just appears to' (HAHA! LMAO - must be "relative" (to the sky falling) . . . . explains much of Einstein's "Relativity" (another HAHA! - BTW: that infers "humor" for the rest of you!)

1) This, by DaveC: post #13 "But with automatic weapons." Evidently he does not know the difference - not many folks have automatic weapons. 2) Specifics: I refer you to my post re: semi-automatic vs automatic
How about if we just call them all "assault weapons", like their marketers did ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_weapon

If we all get our terminology straight, and take care not to confuse an AR-15 that is not set up for automatic fire with one that is, will the gun nuts quit waving them around and threatening people with them, and agree to throw the Cliven Bundys in the hoosegow for a spell? Or will they, given Trump, rather choose the path of greater waving and multiple Bundys?

The Republican Party as a governing entity had self destructed by 1994. There's no reason for it to go anywhere it hasn't already gone - which is takeover of the US government and dominance of the major media.

. . . . or, we could all agree to call them "defense" weapons . . . I agree that one should not confuse an automatic (capable) AR-15 with a semi-automatic AR-15, but that is easily confirmed by sound alone. Rest assured that should the need arise for an automatic AR-15, conversion from a semi-automatic AR-15 to automatic (capable) is a a relatively simple procedure requiring minumal mechanical ability. BTW: The AK-47 makes a curious 'clacking' sound when fired on automatic . . . easily distinguishable from that of an AR-15 . . . just so you know which side is your friend! (HAHA!)

That would depend on who was using them, and why. It's like renaming the US Department of War the Department of Defense - typical government PC bs.

That kind of Politically Correct vocabulary just muddles things. Too much mind reading involved, and no tradition. I think we all agree that mushy feelgood PC vocabulary like that is to be avoided.

The manufacturers selling the things named them "assault weapons", and that seems perfectly accurate and precisely referential and clearly informative.

And having a clearly agreed upon term (by the manufacturers and the prohibitionists both) saves trouble in a discussion about the future of the US under Trump.

The central point is that Trump is Republican, and from the point of view of governance therefore incompetent almost by definition - incompetence at governing is an overt aspect of the Republican Party ideology and agenda since Reagan. So we're looking at something similar to the governance we enjoyed under W&Cheney when the Democrats had only minority status in Congress, this time starting from a yet lower base of sound management and prosperity (Obama started in a deeper hole than Clinton, and didn't dig as far out as Clinton did - the overall trend is deeper into the hole).

The people who have been generally right about what would happen under the last nine Presidential terms are not being consulted this time either, btw - no TV shows, no lucrative book deals, no omnipresence as talking heads, no general and respectful reference by punditry. So that trend is well established and continuing. Meanwhile the rightwing authoritarian Republican media minions bred in the Fox kennels and hate radio dens are spreading out in the wake of the spread of their "news" reading policies - the takeover of public discourse by the Fox business model is being followed up by the spread of its public discoursers:

Megyn Kelly is leaving Fox News for NBC

For Megyn Kelly, the shift from Fox News to NBC – where she will host a daily daytime show and a Sunday newsmagazine program – will be a test of whether she can connect with a broader audience in a different format and reach another level of television stardom...

Well whatever, I'm sure at least the last cable news that still keeps a Liberal or two on the payroll will find a place for just one more... (from Forbes)

Former Fox News Star Greta Van Susteren Moves To MSNBC

In what might be the biggest shift--in terms of ideology, at least--in recent TV history, Greta Van Susteren, who rose to prominence on the conservative Fox News, will be moving to MSNBC. This marks NBC Universal's second Fox News hire of the week, following the announcement that Megyn Kelly will also move to NBC later this year (although she likely won't appear on MSNBC)...

You know, maybe not so much with the teevee, but surely the time-honored and lucrative profession of featured magazine writer still has a place for someone whose previous job didn't involve working the day shift at America's most notorious shit-and-sexual-predator factory for the last eleven... Why bother? All political information is on Twitter now. Including the pundits.

I can only assume that if the satellite falls down or there is a major snowstorm, all governance will cease.
