Interesting how some of these guys come into power with the promise of hope, only to fall, leaving their countrymen in worse condition. I hope I live long enough to see the dust settle from this revolt. What next?
The next anti-Al Qaeda guy is in Syria. But Assad will take longer to fall, I think.
I'm not sure what "promise of hope" Gadhafi ever nurtured. He was a megalomaniac from the word go and wanted to be the pan-Arab leader from before the age of 27. He was one of the last of the "communists" i.e. those who were impressed with the Russian movement and wanted to apply it to pan-Arabia and like all the Arab leaders who were secular, this point put him beyond the pale in western politics.
Its the end of an era with his death - but as long as there is oil dependency, I don't think we can herald the beginning of a new one.
