My understanding of the bible, and particularly the new testament (and I have read the bible in its entirety, and the new testament countless time) is that one should turn the other cheek, practice forgiveness, leave the judging up to god. Are we not supposed to "ask for god to judge us how we have judged others"?

Good point. You know I kind of resent the polite sugar coating that everyone subjected me to especially when I was younger. It sort of puts you in a coma. I'm thankful for all those times when some asshole just straight up told it like it is - NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH the times when people straight up lie - that shit is just annoying and evil.

It's always embarrassing and humbling and it hurts and you wish that fucker didn't say it in front of people - but at least you're not still that unconscious idiot who can't see what's was right in front of his face.

That which one might consider insulting to themselves is often quite amusing when perpetrated on another one cares nothing for. Or gives one valuable "insight" as to the character of the one being insulted.

We really only suffer being insulted by those we like, or admire. The same words coming from the mouth of someone we don't are not given the same consideration.

I think it is rather that the social convention does not give viable or productive tools to deal with reality.
The social convention does give tools to deal with reality, but to use those tools requires that one abolish oneself or presume oneself to be the ultimate authority.

If anything, the worst thing about the social convention is that we are not supposed to talk about it, but we are supposed to accept it anyway.
