Gas...

Yeah. As in flatulence.

Why does it shift from day to day.

I fully understand the bio-chemical process and that food makes a difference. But I have a pretty steady diet and my constitution can shift from pretty much zero emissions to rancid bubble-guts in under 24 hours all while I'm eating pretty much the same thing.

State of mind can greatly influence acid and hormone production in your gut.

my farts are pretty predictable.
i have the "large" ones that don't hardly smell at all and i have the "small" ones that reek to high heaven.

about the OP,
maybe some of the gas is included in the mass of the turd.

You could be unknowingly getting antibiotics in your system. They're everywhere these days, but particularly in meat and dairy products due to the processes of factory farming. They can kill off your intestinal bacterial culture and disrupt your digestion. It's a long shot, but add yogurt to your diet and see if it helps.

Depends on your colonic microflora [which produces the gas]. It also changes with diet and intake of antibiotic or probiotic foods/pharma

Do you fart more as you get older?...'cause I seem to be "Vladimir Puttin" much more than when I was in my twenties.

I think I'll set up a system like they had in "Mad Max:Beyond Thunderdome" and harness this methane energy to run my house. :)

This is actually a brilliant observation and I never thought of it. In the past year and a half I've been on Cipro, Doxy, Bactrim D (twice) and Keflex. I am a heavy Mersa carrier (three pretty big outbreaks: chin, crown [very dangerous] and back [this past month]) and was treated with Bactrim D originally, then I had prostatitis which was treated with Cipro then Doxy. And after my recent surgery, I was given a dose of Bactrim D (which just destroyed my belly) and am now, this moment, on my last day of Keflex.

I just saw a preview for a doctor TV show where a woman had to have a "fecal transplant" and that horrible notion came to mind.

Honestly, this has to be it. When I see my doctor on the 9th, I'll bring it up.

(Oh, and I'm a big organic, Stonyfield Farm's yogurt eater: chocolate... YUM!)

I did a detox once and produced a turd a little longer than my forearm. I have been messed up ever since.

Gonna eat some yogurt.

Don't they make "pro-biotics" that are meant to replace your normal flora? I'd certainly try one of those before a fecal transplant.

Wow! Where do you live? In California I only see those used as veterinary medicines.

You've certainly had some bad luck! Any idea how that happened?

I don't think you have to wait until Tuesday to figure this one out.:)
Oh, and I'm a big organic, Stonyfield Farm's yogurt eater.
Well in that case you'll need some more powerful probiotics.

Somehow, the whole idea of breeding "antibiotic-resistant intestinal bacteria" still seems a little scary.

Probably. I'm looking into it.

Cipro is the most common treatment for prostatitis and Anthrax (believe it or not). Keflex is used a lot for UTI's. Bactrim D is the most common Mersa treatment now. I don't know what they use out in Californi-way. Seaweed and Avocato? ;)

Any idea how that happened?

No. Mersa is common enough. My first serious bout was on the chin. I'm so anal now about cuts. I've become accustomed to the searing sting of rubbing alcohol on cuts. I'll use iodine on non-scar-mattering areas (like the back) + polysporin. On the face, I try to be a bit more delicate. It blows. I'm supposed to be on YET another anti-biotic, this time for my nasal passages. It's in a spray form, my doctor thinks that's where the little microbes are hiding out.

Indeed! I also started eating Activia yogurt every morning. I hear Kefir is good, but it tastes so horrific.

I've probably already bred them.
