Ok, I didnt doctor this photo at all, its from the real NASA site.

Its a picture of an experimental aircraft, the X-36, flying over the Mojave desert, looks like a 5-year old drew some people in the cockpit!

With the higher resolution pictures you can see the "guys" better...they at least could've made a clown or something flying it!

I think I have an explanation but I'm going to elaborate it a bit:

In Viking times they use to place wooden sculptures at the front of their ships, and this continued for many years.

Skipping a bit of time and running up to World War II, Some pilots use to paint their planes with lucky insignia's, skantily clad women and messages to their enemy. (Including messages on their bombs).

This continues throughout the military across the world, either with score charts or just something to personalise it a little.

In this instance I suggest that Charactures were probably painted by one of the flyers, or the ground crew, maybe for luck, maybe to take the biscuit so people like you lot would laugh at the flyers.

Thanks, Captain Obvious. Until you explained, I actually thought that the picture was real. I thought that there really were tiny pencil-lead schoolchildren and an itsy-bitsy clown in there flying that aircraft. I never would have thought of someone spoofing this sort of thing for, what, humor?

    Good catch!
