Would you eat cloned meat?

Are you referring specifically to the cloning of animals (cloning by somatic cell nuclear transfer) or to farming and livestock practices in general? If the former, in what way is the production and farming of cloned animals any more “unnatural and detrimental” than traditional practices?

How? Be specific.

Please explain.

well, how do you think the quality of life for humans would change if we were to become a food source for another species?

i would really just rather not have another sentient being have to die before it's time in order for me to live.

given that, i'd be more inclined to eat an animal killed in the wild or their natural habitat, if i had to for sustenance, but i have the luxury of not having to.

i just don't feel comfortable about the quality of life that a lot of animals created for consumption today have, and i don't want to contribute to it.

A cloned animals meat would not be much different than meat from a regular animal of the same species. I don't eat much meat even now because of all the hormones and medicines that the animals are fed.

So you were a vegetarian, which is, i suppose, commendable. And while you were eating meat everything was cool and when you decided not to eat meat it was no longer cool (for anyone, no less) to do so? This is very typical behavior in humans.

Yeah, it's kinda like the smoking thing...

The most vocal anti-smoking people, are ex-smokers..

They no longer do it, so now, no one should... But, while they smoked, it was just fine.

it's really a matter of enlightenment i think. not to commend myself, but i have to say that before, when i ate meat, i didn't think about the consequences of it, and so i forced myself to examine them, and i didn't like what i saw.

and i have spoken to WAY too many people who have emphatically claimed, "I DON'T WANT TO KNOW! PLEASE DON'T TELL ME! I DON'T WANT TO SEE THAT! i just want to enjoy my big mac."

and if you generalize that attitude and apply it to so many other things that we do, you could pretty much sum up what's wrong with this world.

don't shoot the messenger!

But you are not a vegetarian now.

i am now a pescitarian. which means i eat seafood, but i do not eat red meat or poultry.

i used to be a hard-core vegan, which means i did not eat seafood, or red meat, or poultry, or eggs, or any dairy products.

to be honest, this was a compromise i made with a meat-eater that i married, but i would definitely prefer to be a vegan. it's just a big deal, you know? trying to share meals with someone, going out to dinner, or dining at the homes of friends or relatives, it's really difficult, if not impossible. you have to make a lot of sacrifices, and be a pain in the ass, and i didn't think it was fair to my husband to have to deal with it.

BUT my husband eats a hell of a lot less meat now than he did when he was single, and he likes that. he still eats a burger or a steak sometimes if he's eating out, but he says that he noticed it makes him feel bad...emotionally. i don't know if he's imagining it, but he says that it puts him in a bad mood, and makes him more agitated than usual. not because he's thinking about the poor cow or whatever, but because of some chemical/hormonal reaction.

LOL...sure.

afa becomming a pescetaraian, its easy to cook separate meals or just eliminate the meat, i know quite a few vegans. Although I think you may be being just a little dishonest overall.;)

about what?

this marriage is a super huge big deal to me. i've been alone for a long, long, time, and when you're alone, it's really easy to be a pain in the ass, because no one has to deal with it on a daily basis. but honestly, being a vegan is a HUGE pain in the ass, even when eating at home (salad every night, hello), but particularly when eating out, traveling, or being invited to a friend or relative's home for dinner. i have been to plenty of restaurants that have absolutely zero menu selections for a vegan diet. my husband loves to eat. i love to cook for him. we travel alot. we like to dine out and with friends and relatives. my husband and i have talked about it, and he wasn't like "oh, i'd love to be a vegan. that sounds great!" not even close. he's willing to compromise. i'm willing to compromise, and i think that's fair, and that's what marriage is about.

Have you not eaten a steak\hamburger since you were married? I could have sworn you said you did or somehting close that.

not since i've been married, no. but i did have a filet one night, after being a vegan for several years, and the next day i went to a bengals game (don't say it...the tics were free), and i inhaled two skyline cheese coneys in the stands. i was on a binge. but not since then...

Drunk?

oh....I only been drunk three times. I dont like the feeling of intoxication.

oh...

hahahahaha. that's funny. but good for you!

i just thought that because you were typing like tarzan. :D

...and i am stuck here with no food. Believe it or not, hot dogs i almost cut out completely. In fact over a year ago i ate some dogs in a dive bar on a filthy grill...but i was intoxicated.:D

They taste better that way.. Of course, I think a shoe would, if you're drunk enough.

i live really close to cincinnati, and i used to work at a skyline when i was in high school. before i went vegan, i LIVED ON cheese coneys and buffalo chicken wings. i could eat cheese coneys every single day and love them just as much as i ever did.

but what do they call hot dog ingredients? lips and assholes? hahahaha. yum!

I wouldn't choose to eat it. I think it should be clearly labelled and let the consumer decide. I'd rather my meat live as close to a normal life as possible. Cloning just seems like unnecessary interference in a natural process.
