Why don't we just loan students money at the same rate we loan banks money (about 3%)?

Two statements here. Can you give links etc. more information for support? Also, what do you mean by "second order sentence construction"? I once knew a little about Chomsky's observations about embedded clauses, conversion of declarative to question etc. rules but lacked ability to know if their mutual relations were universal to all languages.

Perhaps reply in the language forum. (PM me if you do.)

    More on thread:
I agree with your earlier post - not all need to go to college. I support the system, I benefited from: Full scholarships for those who will take advantage of it and need it financially. + High tuition for those who can pay (or parents who will). I paid not one cent, except for books and they were second hand whenever possible, at both Cornell and Johns Hopkins; but Cornell got high tuition out of me when daughter when there years later as I could pay then.

I do not think forgiving loans make much stimulus, especially near term as now neeeded. Poll does not give option of "No." so I did not vote.

If your info is correct, the point is yet valid.

Considering the majority of professors are either associate or assistant, the average pay is less than 100K, at least 33% to 50% (depending on how your calculate it) then is claim of >150K.

You aren't being realistic. What job can you get without a liberal arts degree of some sort? Dishwasher?

Professors should be making $150k, they are the most educated and often enough the smartest people the country has to offer. If they aren't getting rich, why should anyone else?

Call me a socialist but I think pay should be in accordance with ones utility to society, as such professor probable do deserve better pay for being the ones the move science ahead, perhaps on par with their industrial counter parts that are moving technology ahead. Now should others get paid a lot, sure again it all depends on what they do for society, how vital and how rare it is. For example a web master that controls the internet of a whole city should get paid gloriously and perhaps even worshiped, or else they just might shut down all the internet in the city, god forbid!

Any action would stimulate the economy from 0.0001% and up...it all depeds if we can stop importing high value products such as electronics, machineries and motor vehicles and parts.

We can produce lithium for the next generation hybrid cars. How forgiving loans will produce Lithium? That is the 64 million dollar question....

There is no option up there I'd choose.
