Actually while up to moderate alcohol can help those with performance anxiety and other psych issues and it may have a slight effect on getting an erection, keeping it as intoxication levels rise is another story and by the time the guy is actually passing out, say hello to mister floppy.

You get an erection while sleeping during rem. When you fall asleep you first go through as stage of deep sleep before having any rem, so no sleep wood from just falling asleep. Sleep erections are often harder and last longer, but in my experience they lack having the rest of the person engaged so they aren't particularly sexy feeling in and of themselves.
