Weiner is of questionable character, not because he was sexting to some chicks he met online, but because when caught he lied, lied and lied to his own constituents - for that, I would vote against him.

This is of course up to the people in his district.

Not that it matters to you they did prove the underlying crime. That is the part you like to ignore.

    Weinergate Frenzy, and other notes

Two high points from this ridiculous episode:

Rev. Al Sharpton, sitting in for the suspended Ed Schultz:

And Congressman Anthony Weiner can't seem to figure out a good strategy for dealing with his Twitter picture controversy. As a survivor of a number of controversies myself I have some advice for the congressman, coming up.

    • An unidentified reporter, possibly Andrew Breitbart himself, shouting out at the end of Rep. Weiner's confessional press conference, "Were you fully erect?"

Of course, I also got to hear Sharpton say the phrase, "Weinergate frenzy", which ... er ... um ... right.

At any rate, his advice was, "You either fully explain what happened or you shut up."

Not much to add to that, is there?

I got to admit, had he come clean from the get go I would have though "WTF is wrong with you?" and moved on, but the lying, the evasiveness, all that made it far worse.

Sorry I have been strident. I just blocked joepistole and spidergoat. I'm limiting my interactions to fine folks. Thank you.

I guess you've see the latest? The dems are a little irritated at him.

And I am calling you all sorts of silly names right now which you will never get to see. Also, here is the x-rated pic of Weiner's penis (link in spoiler):

    Mod Note: Link removed.

I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, especially since he is such a strong fighter for the Dems. Now I think he has to resign, he can no longer be effective. Maybe he can go into porn, he seems well-qualified.

Blocking someone means you have lost. Just saying but in on the Trolling score board getting someone the block you is a win, so you should not give them the satisfaction, better still you should not have admitted to blocking them.

See, I didn't really view participation here as a pecker measuring exercise. I really thought it was about the free exchange of honest thoughts. Not sophistry, which is what I saw happening. That's a game I don't want to play. They can win all the sophistry contests they can get anyone to play. All you have to be is completely full of schit. I just don't want to waste my time culling through it. Think about that...they get satisfaction out of being rendered impotent. Cool.

    Welcome to the internet.

    Some points
    - Troll get satisfactions out of having annoyed you, which they did by your own admission.
    - You can't render them impotent by simply blocking them, as they have a never ending supply of others to Troll upon.

The only way to treat a Troll is not simply to add them to an ignore list, but to forgo ALL communication with them. They feed off a response be it good, bad, or a response to them generally, they don't care if you made it so you can't read their posts, all they care is that you make some kind of response to them, that their existence has been acknowledged.

So ignore them in totality, don't even speak about them indirectly. Of course I'm violating that now by speaking of them indirectly but I do that simply because they aren't Trolls to me.

    Done!.

I'm active on a few other types of boards, a few of which are extraordinarily civil and enjoyable. Great camaraderie. But interests in particular subject matter fade. I've been very active off and on since the late 90's. I haven't been in academia for many, many years (went to even more graduate school of the professional type). It appears the internet has changed it a little. The anonymity has evidently eliminated the professional civility in some circles. When I was in grad school (in philosophy) we could (and would) all argue all day and never say a harsh word, and go to Valhalla and drink together. I loved those years.

I know that there is always a certain amount of hazing the new guy. You know, sniffing each other's hind end, but this is my second attempt at an "intellectual" board, and they seem to have something that attracts a few that have to be the king of the hill on every post. Each post is a challenge and a battle.

And back on topic: Now his wife is pregnant.

    Weinerific

I have been advised, albeit without substantiation—and, in truth, I haven't the will to actually confirm—that the question of degrees was actually shouted out by one of "Howard Stern's guys".

And, yeah, I suppose that sucks some of the humor from the Weiner boner.

    Question.

    Weiner ... boner ... question.

At this point, I got nothin'. Dick jokes. Obvious ones.

Like Homer Simpson in "The Telltale Head". Weiner pulled a boner.

    Woo-hoo.

    Wienerific.

I disagree. He did lie about the incident, but unless they have some agreement or arrangement, he lied to his wife first. Cheating on your spouse is lying. It's especially egregious when done repeatedly. It's presenting one image of a happy marriage to the world, and behaving completely differently behind the scenes. At best, it's dishonest. If that's the way things are, sure. But this type of thing involves lies at multiple levels.

Therefore I disagree about Weiner's sexting... it demonstrates how reliable he is. I think his questionable character starts there. Or with his voting record.
But anyhow, I do not trust brazen philanderers with my country, especially those who weasel around the truth like he did. They're the type of people who are into advancing their careers and personal opportunities, rather than defending the Constitution.

Is it Hillary's lizard love child?

Actually Joe, reading this thread from the beginning I understood EXACTLY what it was Regularguy was saying, it was you who seemed to skew his points. You should have just said 'oh yeah sorry I misunderstood what you said'.

So totally scientifically speaking . . . What do you think the length was. I have put it at a highly respectable 7 - 7.5 inches.

When I was seventeen, it was a very good year

Sounds better in metric; he would be nineteen.

Or you could go with approximate volume. So, what, an inch and a half wide?

    π(.75[sup]2[/sup]) x 7.5
    π x .5625 x 7.5

    π x 4.21875

    ≈ 13.25359400733

Which would be thirteen and a quarter inches[sup]3[/sup].

Man. Thick counts. If he was two inches wide, it would be twenty-three and a half. Inches. Cubed.

    Yeah.

Point one: Young men think about their dicks too much.

Point two: That still makes for an occasional dumb joke now and then.

No, really, I actually estimated the volume of m—

    Never mind.
