There has been a recent flood of questions as to why things happen...the deep underlying reasons why things happen...the mechanism as to why things happen... Other than to say that scientific theories explain how the Universe is but not why it is, in many scientific situations, the question is simply unanswerable. It's just the way it is, simple as that. Of course as theories to explain how the universe is come and go, as time and technological achievements improve, along with observational data and more complicated experiments, their precision in explaining those observations also improve, and if by chance they discover the why mechanism, all well and good. The title of the thread results from a question asked of Richard Feynman, who most would recognise as one of the greatest minds of the 20th century: His reply is documented on the following video which lasts around 8 minutes.
