Why are plants green?

Why do I get the strong feeling that esbo will say this excellent answer is also wrong?

lol, because I have covered some points and other points are very weak, they mere shift the problem elsewhere.

I will go through it in more detail shortly. ;)

That is what I was thinking , A Creationist bate and switch

Err, I think your over active imagination is leading you to see things which are not there!! ;)

Try a mild tranquilliser.

Are you obsess with religion by any chance? (just a wild guess ;) it a common trait amongst atheists.

A quick look at your post history reveals that might be the case.

Sounds to me like you are trolling mate.

Unless you can explain your creationist point I don;t see why I shououdl answer, however I will.

I don't think you yourself know why you made the creationist point and that's probably why you can't make an answer. OR at least in trying to say why you realised how stupid your point was.

Anyway I am not interested in one or two obscure plants I am interested in the other 99.9% of plants.

I can change my question to "most plants" rather the "plants" is you are going to nit-pick.

It was your approach and the way you denied Trippy's discussion line that made Me feel at some point you are going to say something about how it could not just happen . I could be wrong ? Easy enough , but it sure started to sound like direction you were going to lead to

I'm not a biologist...but if I had to try to answer your question about why plants use chlorophyll and not some other chemical, is because billions of years ago, some "proto-plant" first used chlorophyll and was highly successful and prospered while others did not. It survived and gave rise to all other chlorophyll using plants, as it was such a beneficial mutation.

Dont worry, you did good.:)

So why were they highly successful?

Care to explain?

Read Trippy's most excellent post #35...I think he covers most of the bases, and is a lot more informed than I am.

Simply put , plants that used non-green absorbing chlorophyll had a distinct advantage over their competitors in a major way. They kicked ass, while others faded away. Eventually, they dominated their environment and pretty much everything else went extinct.

I am a delusional theist who is convinced by my delusion that the spirit talks to Me through all forms of language . I think that about sums it up , Whatju think Me Sci-F mates ? Did I explain my self well enough ? I think I did . So My real obsession is the occurrence of Michel myths in history starting with a Sumeerian King named Meshkianggasher who is said to have mysteriously disappeared in the sea. It is also said that His son created the first written language , or accredited to his name anyway . Probably because he was king.

Trippy's basically said he didn't know and listed a load of speculative theories which did not seem overly convincing.

I am not going to go through all the speculative theories, not until he can at least put forward his best one or two with a bit more substance to them. I would feel like I was wasting my time otherwise because obviously most of them by definition are wrong is one of them is right.

Yea it is quite odd how people can be come obsessed with somethign they do not believe in.

There is nothing more obsessive than a fundamental atheist, they will be blowing themselves up in crowded mosques before long. :p

Maybe the Holy Spirit is green?

Remember St Patrick and the Shamrock, that was green.

All of my... Suggestions were based on observations, including peer-reviewed literature. I invoked nothing more complicated than highschool chemistry to infer some explanations.

So far you've done nothing more than wave your hands and so "I don't like it".

Rule of Laplace.

Burden of proof is on you to prove that none of them are reasonable.

Pony up, or I'm closing this thread.

There's no way for anyone to know exactly why they dominated, since we don't know what the exact conditions were at that time. Maybe it was atmospheric conditions...maybe some sort of virus or disease that plagued everything else, and they were the only ones that were immune....maybe it was just pure luck. Speculation is the best anyone can offer about that early in earth's history.

Capitalize the G in Green and I will be your friend and rearrange it to say :
Maybe the Green Spirit is holy , Blam now I am Happy .
I also think Trippy gave great answer and it is Modern people like him that are the real Hero's of today. Science is our friend

You have time to post all these BS responses about atheism but not actually reply to the substance of the thread you started?

Why do I suspect it is highly unlikely that you will post anything worth reading?

This is going to be good, well it would be if he actually were to say anthing about why plants are green but alas, I fear he won't.

I don't think I have time to right any lengthy post at the moment, but I will later provided the thread is not locked.

If Trippy wants to lock the thread than that's his look out, I am not going to be bullied into responding in that manner. It is just not on.

I don't take shit like that from anyone.

End of.

But you like to dish it out, don't you?
