One image that haunts me is of two african kids I saw on the telly. The girl was around 9 yrs old and her brother was 4yrs old. They were orphans as their parents had died of AIDS and they had no one to look after them and they were in utter poverty.
What was particulary sad was that the little girl was trying to be so brave and strong but when her little brother cried she hugged him tight and all the strength went out of her as she wept and consolled him at the same time. I can never imagine their pain. It was the saddest thing I have seen.

What's the saddest thing you have seen?

    Thanks

The saddest thing i have seen is a full grown man walk into a school full of children and shoot 15 of them and a teacher for no apparent reason or Chechen rebels [who i usually feel sorry for] doing pretty much the same thing, entering a school full of kids and shooting them.

Children are our future, if we continue to fuck them up our future is a bleak one indeed.

I suppose I'm lucky I haven't seen anything terrible happen to a human.

A half-runover kitten in the road. Moving spasmodically.

Do you think that the starving Afican kids get paid food for being on TV? Of course they are not told this beforehand or you don't get the same effect. But surley they must give these people food, my God some of the lowest forms of life get paid huge amounts of money to appear on TV.

Probably not the saddest but certainly one of the saddest things I have seen was that photo of a young Vietnamese girl running from a nap. burning village naked.
The photo I believe changed The USA's attitude to the war their.
She apparently is still alive, after surviving deep burns to her back.

The saddest thing I’ve ever seen would be my mother’s dead body.
It turns out open coffin funerals are not such a grand idea, after all.

ive seen people get shot, ive seen people stabbed to death, but that kinda stuff dosent effect me really,

the saddest things ive seen are,

young children and very elderly people going through the trash for food in the rain with no coat,

little kids in the hospital dying on the beds coughing,

animals in my area that have been beaten badly by there owners and drag themselves along the curb dying,

seeing peoples bodies hung up in a cell in jail just swinging or hanging still,

seeing baby animals suffer because of humans,

and most of all seeing humans destroy the very world that created us, its the saddest thing, that humans can do this when we are the ones who could help it the most if we tried.

    peace

To tell you the truth, One of the saddest thing I think I ever saw was when those planes were flown into those buildings in that city in the USA [9/11]. The image of that plane penetrating the tower still haunts me. And to render the whole thing even more indelible, the collapse of those two towers.

The grief at the time was almost overwhelming. Not so much for the actual act but for the intense sadness I felt that someone has found the need to express themselves in such profoundly insane ways. That we are not listening, that we have by our attitudes bred a culture that feels so hopeless that they must resort to such acts. To strap on a bomb and suicide.

That we are so naive in our arrogance and that we seem to be unable to change so that these sorts of things are not repeated because they are unecessary to be repeated.
That in a moment [9/11] when leadership with vision was called for, it was no where to be found. Instead of solving the problems we have gone on to exasperate them.

When I was a kid, like 8 years old, my friend got a stick and tipped a birds nest from a tree and the eggs were cracked open on the ground.

I cried myself to sleep for days thinking of when the bird returned to the branch to find it's nest and eggs gone... So senseless

The saddest thing I have seen I saw only 2 nights ago.
My little brother has been in the children's hospital with pneumonia, and I really hope, and think, he will be ok.
Seeing him on all the machines - vital signs monitoring, oxygen mask, saline drips, morphine drip, etc, all sore and crying in pain. Its awful, and its not fair for him to suffer this way, but I am sure he will be ok.

There are many other kids in the children's hospital with terminal illnesses, and life-threatening conditions.
Seeing my parents and other parents waiting while their children are in the operating theatre.
Seeing a mother sing to her baby that might have brain damage, seeing a little boy covered in burns. Its the most heartbreaking thing ever - and thats only in one of the non-critical non-cancer wards.

Seeing them and their parents is the saddest thing i have ever seen - but its only further inspired me to finish my psych/neuroscience degree and maybe even work in a hospital so i can help people who are suffering from problems related to that field.

If you are religious please pray for my brother and all the other kids in there.
    Otherwise,
SUPPORT THE PUBLIC HEALTH CARE SYSTEM!!!
    SUPPORT NURSES WORKING CONDITIONS!!
SUPPORT AN AFFORDABLE HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM (college, university etc)!!!!
DONATE BLOOD!!! (I'm going to try to next week).

    Thanks,
    Huwy

    Come on, 9/11 sad?
You know and I know that somwhere inside of you there was a bewildered jackass brought to life for once.

September 11th would've been as boring as every last day in your boring little life if it wasn't for Muslims. If it really was so 'sad', none of you would've spent so much time gawking.

    On topic:
THe saddest thing I've ever heard: 1) Rumsfield and 2) an old woman ridiculing NASA for going to the moon. People like her are why Mars remains barren.

That is a really sick statement!

"You know and I know that somewhere inside of you there was a bewildered jackass brought to life for once"

You are a psychotic person that needs help. I am also that "bewildered jackass" but I was not "brought to life for once" by it! I am more brought to life by your anti-sentimental, hardened-to-the-core, unsympathetic, inhumane comments. Aside from that, you are stating comments that promote and exhibit racial prejudice and that is against the law. If you persist on stating anti-Muslim comments on the internet and on these forums, you are allowing yourself to be subjected to legal police intervention.
