    Rainbow - Street Of Dreams

I heard the sound, of voices in the night
    Spellbound, there was someone calling
I looked around, no one was in sight
Pulled down, and I kept on falling
I've seen this place before, and you standing by my side
I've seen your face before tonight
Maybe I just see what I want it to be
    I know it's a mystery

Do you remember me, on the street of dreams?
Running through my memory, on the street of dreams

There you stood, a distant memory
So good, like we never parted
Said to myself I knew you'd set me free
And here we are, right back where we started
Something's come over me, and I don't know what to feel
    Maybe this fantasy is real
Now I know I see what I want it to be
    But it's still a mystery

Do you remember me, on the street of dreams?
Running through my memory, on the street of dreams
You're in every face I see, on the street of dreams

Something's come over me, and I don't know what to feel
    Maybe this fantasy is real
Now I know I see what I want it to be
    But it's still a mystery

Do you remember me, on the street of dreams?
Running through my memory, on the street of dreams!

    On the street of dreams
I know you have always been
    On the street of dreams
Will we ever meet again, my friend
    On the street of dreams
Do you know just what it means, to be
    On the street of dreams
Never know just who you'll see, do you
    On the street of dreams
You can be who you want to be, oh no
    On the street of dreams
I can hear you calling me... on the street of dreams

    Homeward Bound

When the sparrows stop their singing
And the sky is clear and red,

When the summer's ceased its gleaming
When the corn is past its prime,
When adventure's lost its meaning -
I'll be homeward bound in time

Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow

If you find it's me you're missing
    If you're hoping I'll return,
To your thoughts I'll soon be listening,
And in the road I'll stop and turn

Then the wind will set me racing
As my journey nears its end
And the path I'll be retracing
    When I'm homeward bound again

Bind me not to the pasture
Chain me not to the plow
Set me free to find my calling
And I'll return to you somehow

    (softly)
    In the quiet misty morning
When the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing
    I'll be homeward bound again.

In a few hours on a Sunday night in 1973, the 22 year old Clare Torry improvised a vocal performance that remains one of the most creative accomplishments ever captured on vinyl.

About ten years ago at an auction, I heard the perfect solution to a lingering problem. The problem was vinyl LPs and 45s. I had somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000+ of these lovely creatures that belong to a different era, but nothing to play them on. Up on the auction block is a 1967 Grundig Majestic console stereo in mint condition. Hand crafted in Germany. 450 watts power the six console speakers. Holy crap, it has a platter! And the sound... the sound this baby kicks out is breathtaking!

    Sold

I have the song below in digital form. But it falls far short of the analogue vinyl version with tube-power pushing the speaker cones. Produced by Robert Stigwood, the song is full-bodied and lush. It has that deep tubby bass I love (I'm guessing a Fender with round-wound strings). As the song matures, orchestral strings and horns intensify. On vinyl, the vocal power of the Brothers Gibb in the chorus is absolutely stunning. Enjoy.

Bee Gees - Run To Me

(Note: Although the song actually fades out very nicely, the vid ends sort of abruptly for some reason)

Driving in to work shortly after midnight, I heard a radio interview with the singer pictured here, Amelia Curran and they played a song that I quite liked. Here she is with Caracol performing, in studio, The Open Book Of Anger.

A hidden gem from the Daydream album (1966). Lyrics, arrangement, and vocal by Spoonful pianist/bassist Steve Boone.

    Lovin' Spoonful - Butchie's Tune

Don't give me a place for my memories to stay
Don't show me an inn or a light to find the way
I ain't got time for the things on your mind
And I'm leavin, you today, on my way...

Please don't you cry when the time to part has come
It's not for what you've said or anything that you've done
    I gotta go anywhere anytime
And I'm leavin, gone today, on my way
    I'm goin home...

Please don't stick around to see me when I'm feelin low
Don't pass the cards to me to deal the crushing blow
I'll even close the door so you won't see me go
When I'm leavin, gone today, I'm on my way...

I'll walk away like a shadow in the night
I won't give cause for you to feel we have to fight
I'll make it easy so that you won't really
quite know I'm leavin, you today, on my way
    And now I'm going...

    Def Leppard - Love Bites

    Love bites / Love bleeds
It's bringin' me to my knees
    Love lives / Love dies
    It's no surprise
    Love begs / Love pleads
    It's what I need
