    Hi,
what kind of equipment would one need to transmit a signal (audio or video) to outer space, perhaps a particular target 4 light years away, or 50?

Let's say, if I wanted to send a song to Alpha Centauri, what's the cheapest way to do it on my own, if at all possible? (Yes, I know that the Earth is rotating)

What if a signal to Ganimede or Europa?

    Thanks!

Haha, very funny, that's an overkill.
One six meter dish is enough for 4 light years,
    Ganimede or Europa even less.

Just log onto their site and let them know where you want to send a signal. They could be up for your request, you never know until you ask.

But I was kinda hoping to get an engineering advice for a small tramsitter able to reach at least Jupiter, it's for an art project.

I have no intention to use these services, the signal has to be sent from Latvia.

I really don't think that those recieving any signals from Earth will really know what country sent them, do you?

No, but I said it's for an art project.
I live, study and work in Latvia, I can't just make that installation in Australia.
And it's not intended to contact anyone, it's not important,
the signal just has to reach at least Jupiter.

So any real engineering advice from anyone?

There's no need to be concerned about it, really!

We've been broadcasting signals to the entire universe since the early days of radio. The original TV broadcasts of "I Love Lucy" have long since passed every planet in our solar system and have already reached every single star system within 60 light-years away.

I know that fact really well, and it doesn't address my question at all.

What kind of equipment do I need to send a signal to Jupiter?

(How many times does one have to ask for somebody to notice the question and not talk about other non-related stuff? -rhetoric q.)

TV broadcast tower is intended for Earth transmissions, I need to send one signal to one point at the distance of Jupiter,
and I don't need to cover half of the country in the process, besides it would need a licence and is easy to detect.

It may be intended for Earth but that doesnt mean its limited to it.

So anyone can come up with a useful answer?
Any way, I think no. Going to register to space.com forum or some technical uni forum.
