Driving down a very rural gravel road for work the other day, I rounded a corner and saw a very small fawn clumsily attempting to run down the road. As I got closer, it dropped into the shallow ditch on the edge of the road and lay perfectly still. So I snapped a couple of shots.

They sure are cute when they're small like that. Not so cute when fully grown, and crossing the road in front of you when you're going seventy MPH on your motorcycle. But I'm still more afraid of old ladies making left hand turns.

 

Last fall, I was driving back from my friend Sonja's funeral in Eugene, Oregon. It was the loneliest, most depressing drive of my entire life. As I came back into California, Mt. Shasta was peeking out from the clouds. It looked impressive, so I pulled over and took a couple of shots.
