All that speech and he still died.

Seems a bit of a letdown, really.

Why? What would you suppose happen? He was just a man.

Sam: Except when he was psychic or had a "calamity" going on.

    U. G went through a lot of transformations, kind of like Malcolm X going through something and coming out the other end. His basic message was to expose mysticism.

Sam: Some people are just philosophically inclined to nihilism. For them the meaning of life lies in making everything meaningless.

Actually no he wasn't a nihilist and he didn't think everything was meaningless. You obviously have not read very much of U.G or heard too many of his talks. One can still find joy and meaning in life while remaining rational and not holding on to myths, lies, hoax's and magical thinking.

Signal:... they are trying to rule, with their minds, over nature and everything there is.

Actually UG spoke out against 'the rule of the mind over nature', that was his message which was the opposite of the teachings of guru's and mystics in the East; the use of meditation to reach the point of unlimited 'bliss' and have control over ones physical material nature which they felt at odds with. U.G wasn't for intellectualism like those who came to ask him questions and he wasn't into that schizophrenic relationship people tend to have with themselves as they create a problem with everything natural.

Expose mysticism? He believed he had psychic experiences!

My experience has been that any one who says they don't have anything to teach, usually doesn't.

Sure. This then requires a lot of work, too. Especially work on creating what is in effect just a different set of myths, lies, hoaxes and magical thinking.

Did he make recourse to another ruler of the Universe and everything in it? AFAIK, no. Thus, his speaking is still an example of attempting to rule over nature and everything via the mind.

And if he proposed there is no ruler of the Universe, then he was proposing nihilism and/or chaotism.

He wasn't trying to get you to believe them, that's the difference.

No, he appears to have relied on people's own nihilism, and thereby promoted it.

Doesnt surprise me he has a dim view of spirituality...being raised in the Theosophical Society.

    Just kind of funny.

"Listen not to the psychics, for I am a psychic and I know the truth of immortality...urrrrrrrgghh."

Sorry, not trying to be offensive, just the traditional English suspicion of soapboxes. And soap, according to Aussies. Who are the descendants of murderers, thieves and prostitutes.

    All manner of silliness.

Remember the Bhagwan...with the orange robed cult in Pune?

He gave a talk once about how he went to the Theosophical Society in his youth, and got members nodding to whatever nonsense he just made up on the stop.

Yeah I noticed many inhabitants of Ranjneeshpuram drifted to the Jees and Ugees after the good Bhagwan [translation : god] popped off.

The problem with cultists is they cant clear their minds of a preliminary confusion...understanding the difference between enlightenment and the enlightened.

They end up believing that enlightenment is a person...and are thus content to be nothing other than followers.

Perhaps the joke was on him, and not on those in the Theosophical society.

Nihilism is the natural state of things.

The Bhagwan would probably ask how you can love anything if you believe nihilism is the natural state.

What's the contradiction? Just because nothing has any inherent meaning, doesn't mean that we can't enjoy things.

Do you understand the difference between pleasure and happiness?

Or the difference between the Bhagwan and Charles Manson?
